This & That

This card was inspired by a convention swap I received. I wish I could give the demonstrator credit because I loved her card and even though I made a few changes to her design the idea belongs to her. But I can't give you her name because I accidently threw it away cleaning up my stamp room and the trash went out today.

This & That Card

It took me awhile to realize that the lightest color flower is cardstock covered with Washi Tape from the This & That collection. It's such a great look. A little glossy. And so easy to do. Just cover a piece of cardstock with the tape and punch out the flower. The coral flower is punched from This & That DSP and the background is a piece of paper from that pack also. It has a bright white background so I lightly sponged some Crumb Cake ink over it.

Stamps: Flower Power

Ink: Pool Party, Crumb Cake

Paper: Crumb Cake, Vanilla, This & That DSP

Misc: Pansy Punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch, Boho Blossom Punch, Pearls, Dimensionals, Needlepoint Embossing Folder, Secret Garden Framelit

My grandchildren all just started back to school. Two are in Kentucky and my oldest grandson lives here in town. He doesn't look too happy in this photo however he was ready to go back. I always took a photo of my kids the first day of school too. I iimagine there were a lot of "First day of school" pictures being taken this week.G-Kids

Spinner Card

spinner cardI had not made a spinner card in several years and forgot how much fun they are. There are a few different ways to make a spinner card and what I have found is that not all spin equally. Here are some tips I use:

  • Use two pieces of cardstock for the front panel. By doing this you see the same color cardstock below the open window. If I had not put a second piece of Early Espresso cardstock in back of the front piece the Blushing Bride color would show through the window.
  • Double-stack the dimensionals when attaching the pennies together.
  • Use the Embossing Buddy to powder the edges of the dimensionals on the pennies.
  • Double-stack the dimensionals to attach the front to the back piece of Early Espresso cardstock.
  • After inserting the pennies into the window shake the cardstock back and forth until they spin easily. This shaking helps round those corners of the dimensionals.

You'll find domplete directions in the video.

Great Sport – Great Birthday

I have always liked the stamp set Great Sport, in particular the main image with the wings and stars. I just thought I probably would not use the sport balls and so held off getting the set. I do have a grandson who plays high school sports but he doesn't get too excited about birthday cards unless they have money inside. I decided to get the stamp set anyway because in addition to the main image that I really like that circle in the center is perfect for so many different stamps. What is hard to see on this card is the Crystal Effects on the stars. It gives a glassy look when dry. It also is a very good adhesive. I just read today online where someone used it to adhere some clear stamps to wood blocks.

Stamps: Great Sport, Blue Ribbon

Ink: Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight

Paper: White, Pacific Point, Quatrefancy Specialty DSP

Misc: Apotecary Accents Framelets, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Crystal Effects

Speaking of that grandson, he turns 16 next month and that is a huge rite of passage in any teenager's life. I recently bought a new car so told his mother and him that I would sell my old Honda Civic at a very low price but that he had to help pay for part of the car. I believe people act more responsibly when they have a stake in something. So he worked babysitting this summer and gave me part of that money in addition to other money he has given. Today he came over to work in my yard and payment for that work is going towards the car. I am very proud that he is doing his part and not expecting his mother to just buy him the car. I tried to take a picture of him working but it was hot and he was sweaty and you know how teenagers are about pictures.

Kit Classes

I am really liking the fact that the Holiday Catalog has so many kits available. I had a stamp party today and had my Halloween Banner hanging up so people could see how truly nice it is.  Everyone commented that is was much larger than they realized from looking at the catalog and that the canvas pennants are such a good quality. The catalog describes them as being paper canvas which might lead one to believe that they are not very sturdy. That is not the case. They are not paper. They are canvas but not heavy. I have quite a few people signed up for the Halloween Banner class. Why not join us? There are two options for this class and two different dates.

Thursday, Sept. 19th @ 6PM and again on Friday, Sept. 20th @ 9:30 AM

Option #1 is $18.00 and would include 6 canvas pennants and the Halloween Banner Accessory Kit.

Option #2 is $28 and is for anyone who would really like to own the stencils that come in the Build a Banner Kit. You would get the entire kit with 18 pennants and the Halloween accessory kit.

Space for these classes is limited so RSVP early to secure a spot. I will order all supplies needed for the banner.

The photo of the Halloween Banner on page 4-5 of the Holiday catalog does show a couple of Pumpkin Pie rosettes or lollies, as they are sometimes called, that are not really part of the kit. Below is the one we will be making in class.

Page 2 and 3 of the Holiday Catalog shows photos of the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit. I put together one of the napkin holders today and it did go very quickly. I didn't really think that it would be something that I would use however after getting it assembled I have changed my mind on that. It is very nice and I love the insert card that allows you to create a list of things you are thankful for. You get enough product to make 10 napkin holders, 10 tent cards, 3 yards each of birch paper and chocolate chip paper for creating centerpieces and the new chalk marker. The birch paper is wonderful. I couldn't imagine how I would use 3 yards but if you look on page 3 you can see that table has 3 containers wrapped with it and each container holding a candle. While I plan on using the napkin holders for my Thanksgiving dinner, I don't think I will use the tent cards. The catalog shows them listing menu items. My plan right now is to use those parts of the kit for making cards.

I do plan on having a special class for this kit sometime in October so be watching for that information.

I also am working on a Christmas Banner class and Christmas Tag class so be watching for that info too.

The class today was a mystery hostess class and a drawing resulted in Kim winning the hostess benefits. Congrats to Kim who gets to pick out FREE product.

Excited that Breaking Bad season premire is on tonight. I think you all know that I write posts at night, sometimes late, and then set them to publish around midnight.

And last, I want to say thank you again to my daughter, Lynn Ann, for the beautiful roses she surprised me with today. I love my kids!

Faux Feathers

There are Make & Take projects every year at convention. We receive the required stamp sets and the materials to do them but I never spend the time to make them. There is so much to do and see and never enough time so I make them when I get home. I liked this treat box project so much. Loved everything about it. The color combination, the faux feathers, the stamps. There is a bit of glare on the box top because it is acetate. These cute boxes are the Tag a Bag Gift Boxes that are not only food safe but perfect for any kind of gift. Two of the small jar candles fit inside. You get 8 Kraft boxes with acetate sleeves for just $6.95.  Each year I make something to take to the neighbors during the Christmas holidays. I plan on using these boxes this year with a special yummy treat inside.

box

In fact I liked it so much that I decided to design a card based on this project. See directions below for creating the liner and the faux feathers.

feather card

Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge, Hello Lovely, Banner Greetings

Ink: Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral

Paper: Bermuda Bay, White, Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe DSP

Misc: Tag a Bag Gift Box, Candy Dots, Summer Starfruit Stitched Satin Ribbon, 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, 1-3/4″ Circle Punch, Mini Glue Dots, Dimensionals

Box Top Liner:

  • Cut cardstock 4-3/8″ x 6-7/8″.
  • Score at 1″ and 3-3/8″ (the cardstock will be scored at 1″ on each long side)
  • Use Mini Glue Dots to adhere the liner to to acetate sleeve by putting them on the underneath side where the ribbon and feathers will be attached to the top of the acetate sleeve. This way they won’t be seen. Once you have the glue dots in place just insert the liner and press to the glue dots.

Faux Feathers:

  • Punch one circle from the Calypso Coral Cardstock and the Crisp Cantaloupe Designer Series Paper using the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch
  • Punch one circle from the Coastal Cabana Cardstock using the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch
  • To create feather shapes, insert circles back into the punch and punch feather shape as shown below.
  • Fold feather shape in half.
  • Snip through both layers, then rough the edges to add dimension.

When I’m Gone

No, I’m not going anywhere. It’s all about a song. Have you ever heard of cup songs? I had not until a few days ago when my daughter and I were talking about them. So that night at 10:30 she sent me the link to this You Tube video. I spent the next 45 minutes watching different cup videos. There are even videos with instruction on how to do “cups”. I was fascinated. This video is When I’m Gone by Anna Kendrick from the movie Pitch Perfect. One of the videos I watched was an interview with her on David Letterman’s show. She said she watched the instruction videos over and over and over and learned how to do this. When the movie people discovered she could do it they wrote it into the movie. Enjoy ….

Here’s another song. Our convention theme this year was Be The Difference. This is the theme song performed by Ryan Innes  from The Voice.

Sea Life

This card was inspired by a swap I received at convention. I changed a few things on it and came up with this. The stamp set is By the Tide which I have used often. The front panel of the card was scored 1 & 1/4″  down from the top and then cut along the side fold. Then you just fold down the top which exposes the top of the inside of the card where you can stamp your greeting. It’s not easy to see but the fish and the piece behind it are stamped on Shimmery White cardstock which does just that, shimmers. The coral is heat embossed in black.

Stamps: By the Tide, Sweet Essentials

Ink: Midnight Muse, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzaz, Versamark

Paper, Midnight Muse, Vanilla, Shimmery White

Misc: 1 1/4″ Scallop Punch, Black Embossing Powder, 1″ Punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Sponges, Midnight Muse Stitched Satin Ribbon, Dimensionals

About that snake from yesterday, I wish I could say I saw it leave my garage today but that’s not the case. I left my garage door open most of the day hoping that it decided the big green world outside was more interesting than the inside of my garage. It does kind of give me the creeps thinking that it still might be in there  and I can tell you that when I had to go somewhere today I got into my car very quickly.

Convention Commercial

Since there is a special right now for new subscriptions to My Paper Pumpkin (the first two months are half price) I thought I would share this cute video. Stampin’ Up! has a contest each year for the top video commercials submitted by demonstrators.  The winning videos are shown during convention and the demonstrators receive a nice shopping spree from the Stampin’ Up! catalog.

This was the fourth place winner although it really was my favorite.

To get the special pricing on My Paper Pumpkin you need to use the promo code PUMPKINDEAL. This special is available until August 31.  Sign up at www.paperpumpkin.com and remember to use the promo code and designate me as your demonstrator.

I don’t like snakes. I don’t know too many people who do. Occasionally I will see a black snake in the yard however it’s been several years. Until today. I was loading my car with supplies for tonight’s stamp class and had the garage door open. I went back into the house for something and came back out to the garage just in time to see a snake slither right into the garage.  I guess it’s still there. I had to leave and there’s no way I’m going to go poking around trying to find it. I think I will leave the garage door open tomorrow and hope he slithers back outside. I can only hope.

The Open Sea

I have been thinking a lot lately about wanting to go on a cruise which made me think of this card. However I would prefer a much bigger boat! The Open Sea stamp set is such a great set for making masculine cards but my guess is that most women would like this card too. I know I do.

Halloween Accessory Kit   $9.95

There are two banner accessory kits that coordinate with the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit. This one that is Halloween and the other one that is a Christmas kit which I also really like. What is nice is that the Build a Banner Kit comes with 18 blank canvas pennants so you could actually have enough to make 3 spooky banners or use the leftover pieces to make the Christmas banner. The canvas pieces are very sturdy and come with the grommets in them for easy threading the twine through and hanging. It also comes with sturdy reusable stencils that include the alphabet and four different designs, and a Stampin’ Spritzer. The accessory kit comes with all of the pieces to make this banner and the paper for the round lollies are pre-scored for easy folding. Be watching for news about a special class for making this banner.

Thankful Tablescape Kit $19.95

Thankful Tablescape Kit
$19.95

This kit comes with everything you need to adorn 10 place settings on your Thanksgiving table. It was also something that I wasn’t quite sure I liked at first but after seeing it at convention I have changed my mind on it. And we were shown how to use the pieces to make a Thankfulness journal instead of the table accents. I have the kit and so now have to decide which one I want to make.  Decisions, decisions.  I just might have to order another one so I can create both!

Truly Grateful Clear, $19.95 Wood, $27.95

Truly Grateful

This was a stamp set that I knew immediately I wanted when I first saw the Holiday Catalog. I was so excited when I won this at convention.
