Stampin’ Up! Manufacturing Plant

This past week was the Stampin' Up Founder's Circle Retreat where the top 100 demonstrators enjoyed 5 days in St. George, Utah. Many of them have been posting pictures of the events and fun they have been having. I wanted to share Sandy Hancock's post on the tour of the manufacturing plant on her Udderly Awesome blog. She showed some great pictures of inking 100 pads at one time and cutting cardstock – 400 sheets at a time! They must have one very heavy duty cutter. You can see her post here.

Woo Hoo, my grandson got his driver's license today. He was so excited. He drove over in his "new" car after he got his license to tell me about it. And then he went out for a ride. Way to go Alex!

Falling Leaves

6 leaves

I don't usually use retired stamps when making a card because when they retire they are not available to buy. But for this card I grabbed this set because the leaves were just the right size to do the six punched out images and I wanted a fall card. I decided to show it because you can substitute other images for the leaves and I like the layout. The background on the vanilla cardstock is embossed with the Woodgrain embossing folder and the Baked Brown Sugar cardstock is stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp.

Tonight was our monthly bunco night and I was the lucky winner of the top bunco prize. Yahoo! I got a cookbook full of blueberry recipes and I love blueberries. The theme tonight was all about blueberries. We had salad with blueberries, blueberry muffins, fruit (with blueberries of course), and a blueberry dessert. Just think of all those antioxidants we got tonight.

Designer Clothespins

Altered clothespins are shown with the Gingham Garden Washi Tape in the catalog (page 171) and I thought they were so cute I decided to make some. At first I put the tape directly on the clothespin but I thought it didn't show up very well so I added a strip of white cardstock first using Sticky Strip. Then just added the Washi Tape, trimmed the edges, and embellished them. There are magnets attached to the back of the clothespin so that they can be used on the refrigerator. Put them in a cello bag, add a topper and you have a great little gift that anyone would love to receive.

Halloween Banner Fun

Some of my stampers came over and made the Halloween banners using the canvas banner kit and Halloween embellishment pack in Stampin' Up's Holiday Catalog. It's always more fun to work on a project with friends and in just a couple of hours time they had their finished banners. Here are Debbie and Barbara with theirs. As you can see some spelled out SPOOKY and some spelled out WICKED.

H Banner CollageAnd here are Patsy and Tangela and her daughters, Ciara and Kennedy. They got theirs done but decided to string them together once they got home. And since the kit comes with reusable stencils Kennedy has already planned on doing a banner with her name on it.

H Banner 2 CollageYou can make your own banner too using the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit and the Halloween Banner Accessory Kit. The Build a Banner Kit comes with all of the stencils you will need and has 18 canvas pennants so you will have leftovers to make banners for other holidays. Since the Halloween banner only took 6 pennants you could make a Thanksgiving banner that says "Thankful" and have enough pennants left to spell out "Joy" or "Noel" for a Christmas banner. What other words can you think of?

Goodbye Trees

When I got back from convention in July I noticed my two huge palm trees were looking a little droopy. But palms often have dead fronds hanging from the bottom so I was hoping that was all it was and that I just needed to get them trimmed. I have always hired a tree service to do that because they were so tall. In August I had the tree service come look at them and they were definitely dying. It seems they got struck by lightning. But then the man who does my lawn service wanted to try a new product he had just started using. I said ok and he bored holes in the trees and injected nutrients. Unfortunately, it was no help so today the trees came down. It was sad. Those trees were so tall and regal looking. It was quite a process to watch and I thought how my dad would have been there watching the entire process if he were still alive and still living just down the street.

Trees collageSo I thought a card with a tree was appropriate for today's post. This card is not a palm tree but is stamped using probably the most popular stamp set in the catalog, Lovely As A Tree. I made this card quite a few years ago so the DSP is retired but any paper could be substituted.

Today my oldest grandson, Alex, turned 16! He, his mother, and his friend stopped by after spending the afternoon in Orlando. I had an ice cream cake which neither of the boys could eat because they ate lunch at a buffet and from the sound of all they ate I'm sure the restaurant was glad to see them leave. And there were presents of course.  He's an awesome boy and I'm proud of who he is.

Embossed Aluminum Foil

aluminum foil

This card features aluminum foil that was embossed using the Houndstooth Embossing Folder. It creates a great look and easy to do. I used a piece of cardstock, wrapped the aluminum foil around it, and secured it with some Tombo Glue. Someone told me they had seen aluminum foil embossing done at a stamping event (not Stampin' Up!) and they used 9 layers of foil to get the thickness needed. Seems to me that wrapping it around a piece of cardstock is easier. The winged background image is stamped with Smoky Slate ink and the "1" image is embossed with Silver Embossing Powder. I made this a congratulations card but there is a round Happy Birthday stamp in the Blue Ribbon stamp set and some people in class used that. This makes a great masculine card.

Stamps: Blue Ribbon, Great Sport

Ink: Smoky Slate, Versamark

Paper: Crumb Cake, Black, Vanilla

Misc: 1-1/4" Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Silver Embossing Powder, Houndstooth Embossing Folder, Aluminum Foil.
