My son and his family are on there way to FL and the entire family is going to Disney for a couple of days. Their children, ages 6 and 11, are out of school the rest of the week for Fall break. He and Becky picked the kids up after school today and surprised them by telling them they were going to Disney. This is Sofia's reaction to finding out. She was beyond excited.

Looking forward to having my whole family together!

Crafting Weekend Getaway

I just spent four days crafting with some friends in a cabin in south Georgia. They have been going there twice a year for the last 11 years and have invited me to go with them before so this time I decided to go. There were six of us and they have this down pat. When they get into town they immediately stop at the grocery store and buy the food for the weekend. It's always the same menu. Pizza the first night, baked potato bar on day 2, followed by chicken Quesadilla and lasagna on nights 3 and 4. Nothing fancy or time consuming because that would take time from working on their projects. These gals are serious. They pushed the furniture back against the walls and out of the way, card tables were set up and everyone picked a work area. All within the first 5 minutes of getting to the cabin. Three of them were doing digital scrapbooking, one was sewing, another scanning boxes of family photos, and I was stamping. The only breaks were when we played Mahjong. I had never played before but I know how now. What fun! The one downside to the whole weekend is there was no internet available which is why I couldn't post the past few days. Thankfully, I had set up a couple of things to post while I was gone. I worked on finishing up some cards that were in various stages of being completed and designed a Thanksgiving banner using some of the pennants from the kit in the Holiday Catalog. I will show that banner in a future post. I did forget to bring dimensionals with me and I use them on most of my cards so was frustrated thinking I wasn't going to even be able to finish the cards that I took up there to finish. However, when all else fails, get creative! I had a glue gun with me to use on the banner so I made dimensional substitutes with dots of glue. Sure makes you appreciate the real thing!

Here are some more pictures. Everyone was very intent on what they were doing.

This card was designed by Canadian demonstrator Eva Gail Lowe. When I saw it on our demonstraor website I knew I wanted to make it. I love how the surprise of the big floating butterfly inside the card. We made it in a class this week and everyone loved it.

butterfly

And inside the card …..

Butterfly inside

My sentiment is from the retired stamp set Word Play. Another great option is "Live the Life you've Imagined" from Really Good Greetings Stamp Set. The only thing attached to the card on this big butterfly is the body. I then folded the wings in and left them to "float" when the card is opened. To make the clouds, make a mask by punching out 3 or 4 scallop circles and attach them together staggering them a bit. Then lay them on your card and sponge over the top of them. Repeat this after moving the mask down and turning it a little more and sponging above it being sure you leave some of the white area created in the previous step. The butterflies were inked using markers. To create the two-tone leaves along the bottom ink the stamp and stamp twice on your cardstock before reinking.

Stamps: Papillon Potpourri, Swallowtail, Summer Silhouettes

Ink: Soft Sky, Old Olive, Tangerine Tango, Crisp Canteloupe, Daffodil Delight

Paper: White, Old Olive, Crisp Canteloupe, Tangerine Tango

Misc: Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, Sponges, Butterfly Punch

Have a great weekend,

Wedding Card

wedding

This card was inspired by a card designed by demonstrator Tracy Henry. I changed a few of the details but the main design was hers. I think it makes a very elegant wedding card but could also be used for so many other occasions. I love using 2-Step stamps. In this card black StazOn was used for the outline stamp and stamped right over the stamped Smoky Slate and Blushing Bride images. And with clear stamps and an acrylic block it's so easy to see right where to stamp. The embossing folder I used has retired however Beautifully Baroque would also work very well as would soome of the others.

Stamps: Stipple Blossoms, Secret Garden

Ink: Smoky Slate, Blushing Bride, Black StazOn

Paper: White, Smoky Slate

Misc: Secret Garden Framelits,Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder (retired), Oval Framelits,Dimensionals, Rhinestones, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

Happy Thanksgiving

Maple Leaf

I love Fall. Cooler temperatures, changing leaves, Thanksgiving. while we don't have the color from the leaves there is up North we do have some trees that change. For this card I used some of the birch paper from the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit from the Holiday catalog. The kit is designed to make napkin holders and more for your Thanksgiving table. There is so much of this paper in the kit that there is plenty to use on making cards or other paper craft projects. The Burlap Ribbon in the Holiday Catalog is perfect for using on Fall and Thanksgiving cards.

Stamps: Magnificent Maple, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Ink: Early Espresso, Versamark

Paper: Early Espresso, Crushed Curry, Sweater Weather DSP, Naturals White

Misc: Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Candy Dots, Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Burlap Ribbon

Disney Day Two

EmbassyAfter a great night at Embassy Suites we headed to Epcot. If you are planning on staying overnight in Orlando and want to be close to the theme parks I can highly recommend this hotel. Cooked to order complimentary breakfast, heated pools, and a very nice, comphy 2-room suite.

It was the first day of the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot and it was a perfect day. No rain, a bit overcast, and not hot or humid at all.

While there are stations throughout the World Showcase with specialty foods and drinks, we opted to eat at the Biergarten Restaurant in Germany. The food is yummy, they have a fun show, and it's nice to have the time to sit down for awhile.

A Bit of Disney Magic

In yesterday's post I said it was going to be a magical day and in fact it's been a couple of magical days filled with Disney magic. I spent two days in Orlando with a friend. It's so nice that it is only an hour away from and that we have the Florida Resident passes. There are a few different options available. We got the pass that is good for all four parks Monday through Friday with a few blackout dates. When you're retired it's the perfect deal. So Thursday we did Magic Kingdom and Friday will be Epcot. It started raining as soon as we pulled into the parking lot and rained off and on during the morning but even a little rain can't ruin a trip to Disney. You can see the dark clouds in the photos below.

Regarding Dalhias

Dalhia

Don't you just love polka dots? This card was fun to make. I used the polka dot DSP from the Regal Color Collection Paper Stack, the polka dot leaf from Wonderfall stamp set, and the polka dot embossing folder. Because the Dahlia is an outline stamp I wanted the leaves to have that same look so I used a black marker to outline them. The dahlia was stamped three times and cut out in different layers, each layer a bit smaller than the one below. Each layer is attached with dimensionals. The flower center is a retired large brad. A button is another good choice for the center.

Stamps: Regarding Dahlias

Ink: Rose Red, Black StazOn

Paper: Rose Red Color Collection DSP, White, Pear Pizzaz, Gingham Garden DSP

Misc: 1-1/4" Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Brad, Polka Dot Embossing Folder,Dimensionals

Clear- $14.95                     Wood – $19.95

It's going to be a Magical day!
