Butterfly Trio

3 butterflies

I started this cared with wanting to use the polka dot paper that is part of the Season of Style Paper Stack from the Holiday Catalog. I really like the paper stacks Stampin' Up! has. There are 48 sheets, 24 each of 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" double sided sheet. So in all there are four designs. These stacks are great for several reasons. If you want to make numerous cards of the same design you have enough paper. If you add a piece to a card base there is enough paper to cut off and use as a trim on the inside of your card. As with all Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper, the designs and/or colors coordinate so you can mix patterns. And when you use Designer Series Paper you don't have to worry with what colors to use on a card. Just pull the colors from the paper.

While there are some great designs and colors in this paper stack to use with Christmas cards or projects I wanted to use the polka dots for something else. I started the card with the butterflies on top of the polka dot paper but it just seemed to need something else. I pulled out the chevron stamp from Truly Grateful and lightly stamped it using Crumb Cake ink over the polka dot paper and it was just what this card needed. I punched out 3 Coastal Cabana butterflies and attached them to the paper and then stamped and punched out 3 more using the butterfly from Papillion Potpourri Stamp Set. I used the non-stamped butterflies flat on the card and attached the stamped butterflies with glue dots in the middle so that I could bend up the wings a bit. I made antennae for them with linen thread which is attached with a mini glue dot.  The greeting is from the hostess stamp set Express Yourself and is embossed with Pool Party embossing powder.

Stamps: Papillion Potpourri, Truly Grateful, Express Yourself

Ink: Crumb Cake, Versamark

Paper: Crumb Cake, White, Pool Party

Misc: Butterfly Punch, Linen Thread, Pearls, Mini Glue Dots, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, Pool Party Embossing Powder

Minutes before I was to leave this afternoon to go play Mahjong I dropped my laptop computer on my foot just below the middle toes. Needless to say, it hurt. So I took a bag of ice cubes with me and played with a wapped up bag of ice on my foot. Thankfully, it is not hurting but it sure is turing several shades of ugliness. And thankfully, my laptop was not hurt.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by,

Curly Paper Wreath

I was looking online today for Christmas ideas and came across this beautiful curly Glimmer Paper wreath that was displayed at a recent Stampin' Up! event.  I just love anything that sparkles or shines.

wreathj1

I looked for directions for curly paper wreaths and this is what I found:

Cut about 6 sheets of 12" x 12" paper into 1/2" strips. Curl the strips by running them between your thumb and a bone folder or scissors, being careful if you use scissors. Start at the middle of the strip and curl towards the end and then repeat on the other end of the strip of paper. To avoid paper cuts it may help to put a Band-Aid around your thumb. Attach to a Styrofoam wreath with pins.

I just may have to make one. Think of the possibilities, especially if you are using Stampin" Up's double sided Designer Series Paper.

Merry Little Christmas

If you do any internet surfing or check out Pinterest for card ideas you will see that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And it's not too early to start on those Christmas cards and projects.

Saturday was our monthly demonstrator meeting. One of the perks is sharing ideas with other demonstrators. Mickey Roberts brought a great Christmas card, I took a photo of it and came home and made it. She's a talented stamper and I love seeing what she makes. I often CASE what she does. My only change was the greeting. Thanks for the idea and inspiration Mickey.

Field Flowers

2 Flowers

This great card was a swap I received at convention from demonstrator Lynn Anderson. I really love the color palette used for the background strips. I don't think I would have thought to put them together. They are Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, are 5" x 1-1/8" and embossed. The flowers are popped up with dimensionals. An easy card to make and sure to make anyone's day a little brighter.

When I was at the cabin in Georgia several weeks ago crafting with friends they taught me how to play Mahjong. What a fun game! Nothing at all like the one you play on the computer. I have started playing one day a week with a group and just ordered my own set. I stamped with friends Tuesday morning, played Mahjong that afternoon, and played cards with friends today. Gotta love retirement.

Stamping With Bleach

It's been quite some time since I stamped with bleach. I forgot how really cool it is to see how cardstock changes when you use bleach on it. This is the card we did in class this week.

bleach card

I used Cajun Craze cardstock and the bleached leaves turned out a perfect match with So Saffron. That's what is so neat, to see what colors the stamped images wind up being. I stamped several different pieces of cardstock just to see what they would look like. Don't even try black. Nothing happens. No color change. And red cardstock doesn't do much either.

bleach samples

If you want to try this here are some tips: Use gel bleach. I poured a small amount on a doubled up piece of felt placed on a plastic plate. Don't have too much bleach or your image will be a big smudge. Don't press the stamp onto the felt too hard. However, when stamping on the cardstock, I found pressing down hard resulted in a better image.

I notified the stampers that we would be using bleach and suggested they wear old clothes but I did take an apron and an old shirt for anyone who needed it. Here are Karin and Cheryl who took advantage of the apron since she came to class directly from work.

Stamps: Best of Autumn

Ink: Chocolate Chip

Paper: Cajun Craze, So Saffron

Misc: Apothecary Accents Framelits, Deco Labels Framelits, Burlap Ribbon, Gold Brads, Tombo Glue (best adhesive for the burlap ribbon)

A Batty Owl

Batty Owl

I stamped recently with my friends, Mike and Cheryl, and he had this adorable card for us to make.  I came home and made more cards with just a couple of small changes. This card does use the retired bat punch and web embossing folder. Maybe you have it? I love that the moon is sponged with two colors and is not completely covered with ink. Most of the ones I see are inked all over. The owl's bat wings are made from the bat punch. Simply cut off the wings from the bat. Clever. Great card, Mike!

Thankful Banner Class

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I am always reminded that I have much to be thankful for. With that in mind, I created this Thankful banner using the canvas pennants and stencils from the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit. I will be having a class to make this banner. If you came to my Spooky Halloween banner class and purchased the Banner Kit then you probably have available pennants since the kit includes 18 of them.  And there will still be enough left to make a Christmas banner. I will be holding the class on two different days and with different options for materials. See below for that information.

T'giving banner

Here's a closeup of a couple of the pennants:

I haven't been posting the past several days because I was off having fun with my family at Disney World. My son, Jeff, his wife, Becky, and my grandkids, Sofia, almost 11, and Anderson, 6 came from KY on Wednesday. My son, Jason, my daughter, Lynn Ann, and grandson, Alex, 16 and I met them in Orlando at the hotel where we stayed for three days. We went to Epcot one day and Magic Kingdom the next. Jeff and his family also went to the MIckey's Not So Scary Halloween Party one night but after a long day walking around the theme park this body was too tired and opted for a relaxing evening. Even though I was just at Disney World a few weeks ago it was so much fun to be there with all of my kids and grandkids. It doesn't get much better.  I haven't been doing much stamping this week so I will share some of our family pictures and get back to stamping tomorrow.
