A perfect day …

I went to spend the day today with my mom who is 91 years young. She constantly amazes me.  We had a good time doing a little of this and that and just being together.  We had lunch in the dining room of her assisted living home and it was the best meal.  People in KY tend to be good cooks I think.  We had country ham, fried apples, green beans and a biscuit.  The church Sunday School class gave this little bunny to Mom at Easter and she has always loved rabbits.  It’s just the cutest thing and you can see she likes it.Mom

On the 80 mile trip to see her there are the most beautiful red bud trees intermingled with all of the green trees.

Then it was back to Lexington to my son’s where we had pizza, a little wine, and Finding Nemo on TV.

Have a blessed Sunday

Stamped & Punched Blossoms

I wanted to make a card using some of the paper and ink that will be retiring.  I never used River Rock often but I really liked it paired with Riding Hood Red.  The flowers are punched using the Blossom Punch which makes for a quick card.  The little flower stamp from Bright Blossoms is perfect for stamping the petals on the white flower. I used one of the small circle stamps from Mixed Bunch for the center of that flower and embellished it with a white brad.  The greeting is from a retired hostess set, Happiest Birthday Wishes.

I am in Kentucky visiting family.  My son and his family live in Lexington and my mother is 80 miles from there in an assisted living home.  When I come to visit I rent a car and go spend the day with Mom and then am back at my son’s for dinner and the evening.  Tonight was my granddaughter’s school performance. She is 10, in the 4th grade, and goes to a preforming arts elementary school.  The students did a variety of things including skits, songs, musical instruments, and more.  Sofia and a friend did a skit and they were the very last performance of the evening.  I do believe they saved the best for last!  Today it has been very cold and this Florida gal didn’t bring the right clothes. Brrrrr

Little Flock of Birds

Flock of Birds

Some time ago I saw a similar card and thought I had saved it but evidently did not because I couldn’t find it on my computer anywhere.  Something similar has happened to my phone.  I can’t find it anywhere, but that’s another story.  So back to the card, I know the one I saw had several little birds punched out of different colored card stock. I don’t remember exactly how they were used  so this is my version of birds punched from the wing of the Bird Builder Punch.  I do wish I knew who’s card it was that I saw so I could give credit for the idea because I think they are just adorable.

This was my first try using the new Stampin’ Up! Photopolymer stamps (the flags and “4 you”).  I had heard how great they are and they truly are!  Photopolymer stamps offer a versatile all-clear stamping option. You’ll find that you get a  perfectly stamped image every time.  And because they are completely clear you know exactly where to stamp your image. The stamps stick amazingly well to our clear blocks and clean up so easily.  This card was for a class and because some don’t like to do a lot of cutting I made two different options.  I also showed using both sides of the strip of Designer Series Paper on the bottom of the card. Stampin’ Up! just came out with their second photopolymer stamp set and I hope they will continue to do more.

Best of Flowers

Today was a fun day at Epcot.  It’s their annual Flower Festival.  Beautiful flowers everywhere which makes me want to dig up all of my plantings and redo with more color.  Of course it would be nice to have the gardeners that Disney has. I don’t exactly have a green thumb.

Now it’s time to kick back and watch Dancing With the Stars.  Thanks for stopping by.

Look What’s Coming ….

Click on the picture to see a cute video on the new wood mount cases Stampin’ Up! will have available May 31st.  I can already imagine numerous uses for them in addition to stamps!  And I love that they will have the name of the stamp sets on the side just like the clear mount stamp sets.  So much easier to see what you have.

Stampin’ Up! Office & Distribution Center

Did you ever wonder what happens to your stamp order once it’s placed?  Stampin’ Up!’s offices and distribution center are actually in Riverton, UT, just outside of Salt Lake City.  During convention there are bus tours that take demonstrators out to see just what and where it all takes place.  The 20 minute ride to Riverton is beautiful with the mountains in the background.

stampin-up-officeOnce inside the building you don’t know where to look first, there is so much to see.  The first thing you notice is the cascading waterfall inside the building’s atrium.

Stampin' Up! Inside office

Next, there is the display area where they have vignettes set up.  These are just a couple of them.

What I liked most was seeing the distribution area.  The first time I went demonstrators were actually allowed to go right into the “picking” lines and help fill someone’s order.  That was pretty cool but they don’t let people do that anymore.  I guess there are just too many demonstrators.  So, once an order is placed a  computer determines what size box is needed and sends it on it’s journey along the conveyor line.  There are employees working a specific area and when an item from their area is part of an order the box stops and a light illuminates right below that item on the shelf.  The employee adds it to the box.  If nothing else is needed from that area the box continues down and around the line.  As you can see it’s pretty awesome.

Distribution Center

Once the order is complete it gets weighed.  That’s because the computer has already determined how much it should weigh.  If the weight is not right then the contents get checked by an employee to be sure the order is correct.  In my 10 years I have only had a couple of times that something was missed in an order.

Weighing

Finally, the box gets packed with filler, taped shut, labeled and delivered to waiting UPS trucks at the end of the line.  And from there to our front door.  I love seeing that brown truck pull up in front of my house!
