Stampin’ Up! Office & Distribution Center

Did you ever wonder what happens to your stamp order once it’s placed?  Stampin’ Up!’s offices and distribution center are actually in Riverton, UT, just outside of Salt Lake City.  During convention there are bus tours that take demonstrators out to see just what and where it all takes place.  The 20 minute ride to Riverton is beautiful with the mountains in the background.

stampin-up-officeOnce inside the building you don’t know where to look first, there is so much to see.  The first thing you notice is the cascading waterfall inside the building’s atrium.

Next, there is the display area where they have vignettes set up.  These are just a couple of them.

What I liked most was seeing the distribution area.  The first time I went demonstrators were actually allowed to go right into the “picking” lines and help fill someone’s order.  That was pretty cool but they don’t let people do that anymore.  I guess there are just too many demonstrators.  So, once an order is placed a  computer determines what size box is needed and sends it on it’s journey along the conveyor line.  There are employees working a specific area and when an item from their area is part of an order the box stops and a light illuminates right below that item on the shelf.  The employee adds it to the box.  If nothing else is needed from that area the box continues down and around the line.  As you can see it’s pretty awesome.

Once the order is complete it gets weighed.  That’s because the computer has already determined how much it should weigh.  If the weight is not right then the contents get checked by an employee to be sure the order is correct.  In my 10 years I have only had a couple of times that something was missed in an order.

Weighing

Finally, the box gets packed with filler, taped shut, labeled and delivered to waiting UPS trucks at the end of the line.  And from there to our front door.  I love seeing that brown truck pull up in front of my house!

For The Birds

One of my favorite stamp sets is For the Birds.

 for the birds

They are just so stinkin’ cute!  So this week in class I decided to do a water colored card using the birdbath stamp.  When stamps have a greeting on the stamp like this set does I often cut it off so that I can use the image for any occasion.  And when I decide I want that greeting all I need to do is stamp it,  either on the front, below the image as pictured, or even on the inside of the card.

Birds in Bath

Stamps:  For the Birds, Fabulous Phrases

Ink: Black StazOn, Summer Starfruit, Cajun Craze, Gray, Bashful Blue, Celery

Paper: Summer Starfruit, Soft Suede, Vanilla, Comfort Cafe DSP, Watercolor Paper

Anderson is 6!

Today was my grandson’s birthday.  He is so sweet and seems to always be happy.  Last week when they were visiting New York City he was beyond excited when he saw the 3-story Toys R’ Us store that has a 60 foot Ferris wheel inside.  His mother told me he didn’t know what to look at first and exclaimed “This is going to be epic!”.  Happy Birthday Anderson!

“I Care” Card Class

I have been having some special card classes with the focus on cards that show you care … sympathy, get well, and thinking of you.  When I do a theme like this I do always have out an assortment of birthday greetings for those who just need more of that variety.  There was one class Sunday, two classes today and will finish up with a class tomorrow.  This is one of the four designs that they made.

Blue Bird

It’s always great fun whenever stampers get together to stamp a stack of cards.

I sure am glad to have a DVR because there is just too much on TV tonight.  I use to ballroom dance so love Dancing With the Stars.  I haven’t decided yet who I think should win but there are a couple of pretty good dancers.   And I like The Voice too but I’ll have to wait until another day to watch them because  I am watching the final basketball game between Louisville and Michigan.  Having lived in KY for several years I am rooting for Louisville but this is a neck and neck game so it’s hard to predict who is going to win.

Mini High School Reunion

I grew up in Iowa, a really great place to be from!  Jane, a friend from the time we were about 4 years old, still lives there but comes to Florida every year for several months to escape some of that cold winter.  Several years ago she organized a little mini get-together of anyone from our high school class who might be in FL at the time.  There are usually several from our class around the state so we designate a date and meet for lunch.  Today was our lunch date and this year there were just three of us but it was great fun catching up.  Just two more years and we will be celebrating our 50th high school reunion back in Iowa!  Hard to believe it’s been that long.

Have a Laugh on Me

It’s Friday night and there were weather reports flashing across the TV stating we were under a tornado watch and to stay away from windows.  Now there is nowhere to sit in my house that is not surrounded by windows unless you are in the closet.  The news specified that this bad storm with the potential for tornadoes was about 15 miles away and headed straight for us and I’ve seen Wizard of Oz more than once so know what can happen.  I have a hallway that is only about 5 feet long so I pulled a chair into that space, could even see TV from there, and had my laptop so it wasn’t so bad. I had posted about this possible tornado on Facebook and when I checked about an hour later I had several comments from friends telling me to stay safe and a comment from my friend Linda saying she didn’t see anything on the radar.  So I checked the radar and she was right … all clear.  It only took me a few minutes to realize the show I was watching with the warnings was something I had recorded several days ago! Makes you feel kind of stupid sitting in the hallway!

My son, Jeff, and his family have been in NYC this week. My granddaughter, Sofia, who is 10, was all smiles when Sam Champion from Good Morning America said he wanted to have his picture taken with her.

A Long Day

I woke up this morning about 4 AM coughing and needing to just get up and so I did … and here it is now 11 PM and I’ve been on the go most of the day.  I have four special stamp-a-stack classes next week so I spent part of the day prepping materials for 300 cards.  I was halfway through cutting Baja Breeze card stock when I realized it was suppose to be Marina Mist!  I don’t know if it was that I was sleepy, needed to clean my glasses or what.  The good thing is that the next time I have a card that uses Baja Breeze card stock the paper will already be cut.

So are you watching Survivor?  I have watched this show since the very beginning and  I especially like the challenges.  Let me just say that I was not happy to see the return of eating disgusting insects.  I couldn’t watch.  Yuck!  I was happy to see Cochran win that one though.  I  just like him.

A special thanks to Betty for doing my class tonight and for emailing me a class hello and picture.  Now it’s time this old gal hits the hay.  Thanks for stopping by.
