Stippled Blossoms

Stippled Blossoms
This card is one that will be made in class this week.  It would be a beautiful Mother’s Day card and that will be here before we know it. I used the lace tape from the Spring catalog on the edge. It is a very sturdy self-adhesive tape that can be reused many times if you are sponging over it as I did on this card.  It can also be used as is on a card.  Stippled Blossom is a Two Step Stampin’ set (say that 3 times fast!).  This means there are coordinating images, one a bold stamp, and the other a line image stamp that is stamped over the bold image in a coordinating ink.  And with Stampin’ Up!’s clear mount stamps it is so easy to line them up. The result is a watercolor look without doing the water-coloring.

Stamps: Stippled Blossom

Ink: Baja Breeze, Night of Navy, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Certainly Celery, Lucky Limeade

Paper: White, Night of Navy

Misc: Lace Tape, Stampin’ Sponge, Dimensionals, Pearls

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.  My family and I celebrated earlier in the week because my children both had to work Sunday.  My daughter, Lynn Ann, is a nurse and my son, Jason, is a restaurant manager. We actually did a last minute get-together with each of us bringing to the table what we happened to have on hand at home.  It was a fabulous meal and we had a great time.  My 15 year old grandson brought his friend so I quickly filled plastic eggs with candy and money and we had an egg hunt.  They had fun and each went home with a pocket full of money.  It turned out to be a blessing that we did celebrate early because I wound up with a sore throat Friday night and in urgent care Easter morning.  Thankfully, with the help of  antibiotics, I’m much improved.

Wishing you all good health.

April Best of Butterflies Stamp Set

Best of Butterflies

Stampin’ Up! is celebrating their anniversary by bringing back some of our favorite stamps from the past 25 years and combining them into special sets, releasing one each month in 2013.  Included in each set is one new, never-before-seen  stamp.  And when you order the “Best of” stamp sets you will receive a collector’s card.  Each set includes a proof of purchase seal.  Collect six seals and send the collector’s card in to redeem for any stamp set of your choice FREE valued up to $14.95.

Best of Butterflies

I love butterflies and have been using then on so many of my cards. The butterfly in the upper right is the image that is new and it coordinates with the butterfly punch. This beautiful set of butterflies is April’s “Best of” set and is just $14.95.

April Fool’s day always reminds me of the trick I played when I was very young that backfired.  I had heard about a stunt that I thought would be a fun joke.  Switch the salt and sugar.  So I stayed up late to put the salt in the sugar bowl and put sugar in the salt shaker.  The next morning I anxiously watched as my dad fixed his cereal for breakfast and sprinkled “sugar” on it.  I just knew this was the best trick ever …. until I found out that there was no more cereal and his breakfast had been ruined.

Hugs,

Chalkboard Birthday Card

Chalkboard cards are very popular right now and we did one in class this week using up some scraps leftover from last week’s card.  They are fun and easy.

Chalkboard BIrthday Card

Chalkboard Birthday Card

When I was designing this card I mistakenly picked out the stamp set Sketched Birthday which will be in the next annual catalog.  So you are getting a sneak peak at a couple of the stamps (the balloon and celebrate).  The birthday cake is from Bring on the Cake.   To create the chalkboard effect stamp the images using Versamark ink.  Be sure to use your embossing buddy on the card stock first so that you don’t wind up with stray white specks which is the result of static. Pour white embossing powder over the stamped images and  heat.  Using a Stampin’ sponge, lightly go over the black stock card with white ink  giving it the appearance of chalk dust.  Next draw white lines 1/4″ in from each edge using the white pencil from the watercolor pencils.  Now you’re ready to punch out the pennants and attach.

Stamps: Bring on the Cake, Sketched Birthday

Ink: Versamark, White

Paper: Black, White, Pool Party, Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper

Misc: Pennant Punch, White Embossing Powder, White Twine, Mini Glue Dots, White Pencil

Have a Blessed Easter and thanks for stopping in.

Mixed Bunch Quick Card

 Flower with Butterfly

This is one of the cards we are making in class this week.  I had some of  the Tea for Two Designer Series Paper from the Spring Catalog and some of the Dahlia’s from the big catalog that I had not used yet and wanted to use them.  It was a quick and easy card to make.

TIP:  The tail of the DSP was easy to cut and get even because of the lined pattern on the paper.  But if you don’t have something like that to use as a guide here’s a tip I got from Cheryl Adams who is in one of my stamp classes.  Cut from the center bottom straight up stopping when you get to where you want the tail to begin.  Then cut from each bottom edge on a diagonal up to that point in the center.  It creates a perfect tail every time. Thanks Cheryl for the tip.

Stamps:  Mixed Bunch, Papillon Potpourri, Itty Bitty Banners

Paper:  White, Primrose Petals, So Saffron, Tea for Two Designer Series Paper

Ink: Primrose Petals, So Saffron

Misc: Butterfly Punch, Dahlias, Blossom Punch, Polka Dot Embossing Folder

Purses

Some of my stamping friends and I got together recently to make these purses. My friend and fellow demonstrator Kaye Teronde designed it to hold a set of cards and envelopes.  We had the best time and as you can see our purses are each a little different.  Check out Kaye’s other great stamping ideas at Stamping with Kaye.

You can find Kaye’s video instructions here.

Tonight I went to see Jesus Christ Superstar with my daughter, my 15 year old grandson and his friend. It was the boys first play.  It was awesome and I am amazed at what great talent we have in our little local theater.  If you live locally and haven’t seen it I highly recommend trying to get tickets.

Thanks for stopping in,

Did you ever have one of those days when nothing seemed to go right?  Today I was suppose to have new carpet installed in a bedroom and on the screened porch.  Yesterday we had such a bad storm (like a mini hurricane), the porch was soaked and the concrete under the old carpet was just too wet so that couldn’t be done.  They did install the bedroom carpet … broke the toilet paper holder when they moved the mattresses into the bathroom.  When they came back to install a new holder they got adhesive on the rug. Later I discovered nails sticking up all along the entrance to the bedroom.  I also had a handyman staining some new doors today.  The stain turned out not to look anything like the sample in the store and right now my doors are orange!  Yes, orange!  And while all of this was going on I was trying to work on taxes,  prep for a stamp class, and learn a new computer program.  Some days are just better than others.  Hope yours was a good one!

All Dressed Up

We have been making cards this month using Stampin’ Up!’s Dress Up Framelets from the Spring catalog.  I have to admit that I didn’t plan on getting any of the dress up product but when I kept seeing such cute things made with the framelets I just had to get them.  Making these cards just reminded me so much of playing paper dolls as a child.

 Dress Up

The framelets include two dress styles and a dress form and sell for $24.95  My stampers had a choice of making their dress with a little sweater, a dress with a sash, or a dress with a flower at the waist.

3 Dresses

To make the pearl necklace use the pearls that are connected.  Snip between them so you have 5 pearls and gently lift them from the paper backing.  They will stay connected and you can curve them around the neck of the dress form.

To color the flower trim use the edge of a marker.  There are 100 flowers in the package and with 40 different Stampin’ Up! colors (neutrals not included) imagine the possibilities for flower colors.

To create the sweater cut out a short piece of card stock using the dress framelet so that it comes just below the waist on the dress.  Cut this piece in half down the center and then cut a little off each side creating an opening to see the dress under the sweater.  Lay both pieces on a paper piercing mat so that they are next to each other.  Place 3 of the smallest pearls down one side of the sweater and with the paper piercing tool punch holes on the other side corresponding to the pearl buttons.

Paper:  White, Marina Mist, Pink Piourette, Twitterpated Designer Series Paper

Misc:  Dress Up Framelets, Pearls, Flower Trim, Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder

In today’s class Donna Harold had a bit of a slip when she was cutting out her dress.  She used that as an opportunity to be creative and came up with the cutest dress with a peplum, something I have been noticing is back in fashion. Donna, you are right in style with your dress

There is also a very cute stamp set that coordinates with the Dress Framelets and is called All Dressed Up.

Now I’m off to clean up from today’s class and start working on projects for next week.  Thanks for stopping by.

Sugar Easter Egg Card

Did you ever have one of those sugar eggs, the one with the hole and a scene inside?  Today’s card is my version of that Victorian Easter tradition and although there is no scene inside (and no sugar either) it just reminds me of those beautiful eggs.

Sugar Egg

Sugar Egg

The egg is made using the new oval Framelets from the Spring Catalog.  To create an egg-like shape place the smaller oval framelet inside the larger framelet on your card stock and instead of centering it place it closer to one end.  When using any framelet it helps to keep it from moving by placing a sticky Post-it note across it. The “egg” is then embossed using the Lacy Brocade embossing folder, also from the Spring catalog, and then covered with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  The punched flowers have a small pearl in the center.  Add the bow and attach over a stamped greeting using Dimensionals giving the illusion of a hollowed out egg.  The Wisteria Wonder background is embossed with the Polka Dot Embossing Folder.  I did use an old Easter greeting but this would sure be cute with one of the stamps from Everybunny in the center.

Paper:  White, Wisteria Wonder, Daffodil Delight, Certainly Celery, Elegant Eggplant

Misc:  Oval Framelets, Bird Builder Punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch, Daffodil Seam Binding, Dazzling Diamonds  Glitter, Pearls, Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder

I recently bought a new car.  A convertible!  I have always wanted one and so I was thrilled when I got it.  I couldn’t wait to go out riding with the top down and since I live in Florida the weather was just perfect.  Well, almost perfect.  Our pollen counts have been unbelievably high and it turned out that my allergies meant I had to keep the top and windows up.  There is a married couple, Cheryl and Mike, who come to one of my weekly classes and they made me a survival kit with decorated goggles, masks, and a jeweled clothespin to hold my nose closed.  How cute would I be wearing this in my new car!

Allergy Survival Kit

It’s late and I have an early morning demonstrator meeting with a stamp class in the afternoon so I’d better call it a night.  Thanks for stopping by.
