So today it felt like I spent the day at the dentist.  The one that I had been going to for about 25 years retired and I decided to go to the one my kids go to and like.  His office is in Merritt Island, about 35 miles from home, which plays into why I spent so much time there.  I needed a crown.  Previous crowns have always been a 2-appointment ordeal.  Get the prep work done and come back a week later for the crown.  The new dentist does the prep work and you come back in two hours to have it put on.  Obviously not enough time to go home and the mall is just a few blocks away so off to the mall I went with a very lopsided mouth thanks to Novocaine or whatever it is they use these days.

Scribble Stamping

Scribble Stamping

Do you ever need a card in a hurry?  Well, this technique is for you.  It’s called Scribble Stamping and is a card I CASED from demonstrator Deb Valder.  Use the larger brush end of a marker and holding it on it’s side, scribble back and forth across the card stock.  Be sure not to use the marker with the point down as this breaks down the point.  You want to be sure that some of your lines extend beyond where the stamped image will be stamped.  After adding your marker’s color stamp an image and greeting with black StazOn and you’re done!  The possibilities are as great as your marker colors and stamps.  The only thing I changed from Deb’s card is a couple of punched flowers with pearl centers.

Another Favorite Going Away

I have always liked vintage cards and Established Elegance is a perfect stamp set for creating this look.  It is another of my favorites that is on the retirement list. Mother’s Day is coming up so I decided to use this set to create a very feminine card using Pretty in Pink which is one of the Stampin’ Up! colors retiring.

This card idea came from my friend and fellow demonstrator Carol Hall. She knew I didn’t have much time to prep for classes so she brought a sample card and said I could use it.  The only thing I changed was adding the button on the butterfly.  Thanks Carol.

Say Goodbye to French Foliage

One of my all-time favorite stamp sets from my 10 years as a demonstrator is French Foliage and it’s being retired. I usually sell those stamp sets that retire but this one I definitely will be keeping. Last week I was on vacation and only had one day to prepare for classes this week so I made it easy on myself and decided to CASE my projects.  CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything and with so many talented demonstrators and about a gazillion cards posted on our demonstrator website I chose this beautiful card done by Carolyn Lindenmayer from Queensland, Australia.  I loved her card so much I didn’t change a thing about it. The colored strip is done my masking using sticky notes and sponging on ink.  I used Certainly Celery ink followed by Island Indigo. I can imagine so many other stamp sets and colors using this same technique.

French Foliage

Stamps: French Foliage, Perfectly Penned

Paper: White

Ink: Certainly Celery, Island Indigo, Soft Suede

Misc: Sponges, Sticky Notes

So a couple of days ago my daughter drove me by a house that has two emus in the back yard.  They are pretty big and this house is right in the middle of a neighborhood. Who keeps emus in a back yard for goodness sake! My daughter got out to take this picture and one of them came right up to the fence to check her out.

A Day at the Races

While I was in Kentucky this last week we went to the races at Keeneland.  Lexington is horse country and Keeneland racetrack is one of the prettiest in the country.  I love seeing the horses.  They are such beautiful animals. Keeneland only has races during April and October and I try to go visit my family during at least one of these months during the year. I am not much of a gambler so I take my $20 limit for the day, study the racing form and then make my educated bet based on things such as the name of the horse, the jockey’s colors, and the way the horse looks.  It’s not the best way to pick them and is probably why I don’t usually win anything.  My sister-in-law, Kate, came from Cincinnati to go with my son, Jeff, and I.  They are in the bottom right of the collage below. In fact the only wins for any of us that day came from a bet on a horse that had Kate’s grandson’s name in it.  The odds were about 30 to 1 so we weren’t really expecting anything.  Imagine our excitement as we watched that horse come in third. Kate and Jeff bet on the horse, I didn’t, and they each won about $10. It was a fun day.

The other thing I love about Kentucky this time of year are the beautiful flowers that we can’t grow in Florida. There were tulips growing all over and flowering trees on every corner. And of course there are all of the horse farms.  If you have never been to Lexington it’s a trip well worth your time. Spring or Fall are the prettiest times to go and if you go in either April or October spend the day at the races.  You just might see me there.
