The Fun Continues …..

This morning my friend, Rosemary, and I went to pick blueberries. It was her first time going. We had so much fun and got some delicious blueberries. In fact we each picked eleven pounds. That’s a lot of blueberries! Blueberry 2 Collage

Tonight my kids, Lynn Ann and Jason, and my grandson, Alex, and I went to Orlando to see Cirque du Soleil Quidam. I really liked the show and  I love anytime I can spend time with them. It amazes me how some of those performers do what they do. One of my favorites is the ribbon or tissue aerialist. It’s beautiful and they have such poise and strength. And the couple in the bottom of the collage below were unbelievable. Talk about strength!

Quidam Collage

My niece is an aerialist doing ribbon and trapeze but I have never been able to see her perform because she lives in Australia. When she is not flying through the air she is coaching actors in American dialect, doing voice overs, and being Mom to two great kids.

A Day of Birthday Fun

Today was my birthday and it started with Lynn Ann (daughter) and Jason (son) taking me out for breakfast.

Lynn Ann & Jason

Lynn Ann & Jason

Then Lynn Ann and I drove to Melbourne to pick up a purse she won by being the right caller on a radio station program.  She had her choice of several different purses that had been donated by Dillard’s and chose a beautiful black Kenneth Cole bag with the $149 price tag still on it. She seems to be quite lucky in winning things. Hmm, I wonder if she plays the lottery. Tonight I had a stamp class – a group that stamps once a week with me and have been for years. I was surprised with cake , not just one, but two! And warm, homemade cookies and wine. Thanks so much Cheryl, Mike, Pat, Carol, Linda and Terri for the goodies.  Yummy!

I also got these beautiful hand stamped cards that I want to share.

New Catalog Sneak Peek

Just a short post tonight as it’s late and I’m ready to hit the hay. So I got this great card in the mail today from my good friend and fellow demonstrator Grace Benjamin. I love the card and know this will be one I will CASE (copy and share everything) for sure. It is made using some of the products from the new catalog. Just a few more weeks and the new catalog will be available. Will this be on your wish list?

Say Goodbye to Aviary

Aviary is on the retirement list which means there is only a few weeks left to get it. Say Goodbye to Mouthwatering

Watermelon Slices

This stamp set is enough to make your mouth start watering. It is on the retiring list and only available until the end of May. Lucky Limeade card stock is also on the retiring list. My card was inspired by Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Julie Davison. Notice there is a “bite” taken out of one of the slices. It is easily done with the scallop circle punch. The rhinestones can be colored to be any color you want using a permanent marker such as a Sharpie.

Stamps: Mouthwatering, Fabulous Phrases

Ink: Black StazOn, Markers: Calypso Coral, Old Olive

Paper: Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Black, White

Titanic, The Experience

Today my friend, Rosemary, and I went to Orlando to Titanic, the Experience.  It is a 17 room exhibit of more than 400 memorabilia and 100 artifacts recovered from the wreckage of the Titanic. You have the option of walking through the exhibits on your own or as part of a tour with storytellers in period costume.  When you enter you are given a boarding card with the name and information about one of the passengers. Towards the end of the tour you enter a room with very large wall panels, one for first class, one for 2nd class and the third for steerage, each listing every passenger’s name.  The names in bold lettering are those who survived.  The tour includes full scale room re-creations that include the grand staircase, a first class parlor suite, the boilers, and the promenade deck.  As you enter the area depicting the deck there is a dramatic change in temperature. It is not difficult to imagine you are actually on the ship.  There is a replica of an ice berg with a sign instructing you to touch it.  It was as cold as the water would have been that night when so many wound up there and was extremely cold. There is so much more so if you have not been there I recommend it, especially if you like museums, history, and/or the movie.

PicMonkey Collage

We followed the Titanic tour with lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. It was a perfect day with my friend. Bye the way, the passenger listed on my boarding card survived.  Rosemary’s did not.

That’s all for tonight …. I pulled out my old VCR tape and am re-watching The Titanic and they have just hit the iceberg.

Another Card with Nature Walk

Bird & Eggs

We did another card using the stamp set Nature Walk this week because I wanted to demonstrate the technique used on the eggs and because I just love this set and really hate to see it retiring.  The eggs are stamped with Early Espresso ink and they are “puffed out”. To do this turn the card stock over and place it on a paper piercing mat. Use a stylus and move it around under the stamped egg images. This breaks down the paper fibers. resulting in the puffed out look. You need to do this carefully. If you do it too much the paper might tear. Once you have this done fill in the distressed area with dimensionals. The splatter on the card stock is done with the spritzer tool and Early Espsresso marker.

Stamps: Nature Walk

Ink: Early Espresso, Markers: Espresso, Certainly Celery, and Baja Breeze

Paper: Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, Certainly Celery

Misc: Dimensionals, Spritzer Tool, Stylus & Paper Piercing Mat

Happy Nurse’s Week

This is national nurse’s week. My daughter, Lynn Ann, is a NICU nurse. I am so proud of her and all she does, not only taking care of those fragile little babies, but also the caring heart she has for their families.  This is a card I made for her a few years ago.  It was cased from Ellen Kemper and you can see her instructions here.

Do you watch Dancing With the Stars?  Tonight was a double dance night with each couple performing a dance and later a second trio dance. The shock of the night was judge Len’s verbal reaction to Kellie and Derek’s paso doble with Tristan and his score of a seven! Really, Len? A Seven! What were you thinking! Unbelievable. I thought it was an outstanding dance and so did the other two judges, Carrie Ann and Bruno, who both gave them ten’s.

Butterfly Z-fold

This was my first attempt at doing a Z-fold card which we made in last weeks stamp classes.  It’s a little overwhelming with all of those butterflies so to make it easier for the class I made a template with a row of each large butterfly punched from Designer Series Paper, a row of the stamped and punched butterflies, and a row of the small butterflies.  I also labeled each of the acrylic blocks with a butterfly that was to be stamped indicating what color ink, what color paper and how many since some of them were repeated.  The paper used for the card is Natural Composition Specialty which has a glossy, raised printed pattern on one side and that determines the way the card folds and opens. When you open the card the backside of the middle section is seen so we put butterflies on the back of the middle section matching up the wings with those on the front. Start with a piece of 12″ x 12″ cardstock, then cut it at a diagonal from 5″ tapering down to 2″.  You can get three cards from one 12″ x 12″ paper.

Butterfly Z-fold

Stamps: Papillon Potpourri, Memorable Moments

Ink: Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Pool Party

Paper: Natural Composition Specialty, Comfort Cafe DSP, Pool Party, Summer Starfruit, Vanilla

Misc: Pearls, Elegant Butterfly and Petite Butterfly Punches, Mini Glue Dots

The Run for the Roses - 139th Kentucky Derby

The Run for the Roses – 139th Kentucky Derby

Today was the Kentucky Derby. I’m a big fan although I have never actually been to the Derby.  Too many people. So I watch from home and make my picks as to who I think will win even though I don’t bet any money. It’s a good thing because today I would have lost my money. It’s fun to see the fabulous hats and hear the stories about the horses, owners, jockeys, etc.

Hugs,
