Two years ago today I lost my dad. This photo is one of my favorites of him in his later years. He loved good food!  I have kept this picture on my phone so that it shows up whenever I open up the phone. It just makes me happy. He was the most wonderful man and the best father. I don’t have any memory of him ever raising his voice or saying an unkind thing ever about anyone. He loved nothing more than being with his family. I was fortunate to have him and  my mother living 3 houses down the street from me for 14 years. He had a habit of reaching out to touch your hand when you would leave their house if you walked by the chair where he was sitting. Such a loving gesture, a special memory and one of the things I miss so much. I always knew he loved me. I was blessed to have him as my dad. Miss you Dad.

A Little Bit of This and That

I hope those of you who are here on the Space Coast of Florida saw the launch tonight of a Delta rocket. There is something so exciting when you watch that yellow ball of fire soaring towards the heavens, see the trail of smoke and then finally hear the roar as it heads into space. I have been watching launches for forty years and love seeing them today as much as I did that first one. I can just go out into my front yard to see these spectacular fireworks. Tonight it was especially pretty with the full moon off to the right. This photo of the liftoff is from Spaceflight Now. Of course, standing in my front yard I didn’t see the liftoff but I still got a pretty good show.

Delta Liftoff

This morning I had a stamp class then met a friend for lunch. The rest of the day I spent working on sorting stamp sets and getting things ready for my open house and stamp sale. The catalog transition is a bit of work since I don’t usually keep stamps that are retiring.  I reorganized my stamp closet, went through markers, paper, and re-inkers, weeding out the old, deciding what to keep and what to sell. I have over 100 stamp sets that I will not be keeping along with a lot more Stampin’ Up! product. So this gal is tired and I’m gonna call it a night.

Thanks for stopping by.

Say Goodbye to Bordering on Romance

Bordering on RomanceBordering on Romance-2

I wanted to make a window card for stamp classes this week and thought this would be a good stamp set to use. It’s one I have used often so I’m sorry it’s retiring. The clear panel on the front of the card is a piece of window sheet. The adhesive shows on the inside where the window sheet is attached so to hide that, on the inside of the card, there are two more of the narrow line of flowers seen here on the top of the card. Just attach over the visible adhesive and viola’, it’s no longer visible. The larger piece of card stock is 7″ x 4 & 1/4″ scored at 1 & 1/2″. The window sheet is 2″ x 4 & 1/4″ and the bottom piece of card stock is 2 & 3/4″ x 4 & 1/4″.

Ink: Riding Hood Red, Black StazOn, Markers: Riding Hood Red, So Saffron, Celery

Paper: Riding Hood Red, White

Misc: Window Sheet, Pearls, Dimensionals

Today was a great day to take a drive in the convertible so a friend and I went to Port Orange to have lunch at Aunt Catfish on the River. Good food, great location, yummy cinnamon rolls. In fact they are known for those rolls and every meal comes with a warm one.  After that we drove over to A1A and down to the Ponce Lighthouse. I had been there before but probably about 25 or 30 years ago. The lighthouse is the tallest in Florida and one of the tallest in the country and dates back to 1824. Visitors can climb the circular staircase’s 203 steps to the top where the view is said to be amazing. No, we did not go up.  There are also several of the original buildings on the grounds that house memorabilia, a short video about the lighthouse, and a very nice gift shop. The grounds are immaculate. All of this for just $5 admission.

Say Goodbye to You Are Loved

SU glitter valentine

This is a card I made for a convention swap last year. The stamp set is a great one for valentine cards but also could be used for so many other occasions. I love any kind of glitter and bling and Stampin’ Up!’s glimmer paper is a favorite of mine. Did you know you can color the silver glimmer paper and create almost any color using re-inker and a sponge dauber? The paper takes a little while to dry but it’s so worth the time. Imagine all the colors of glimmer paper you can create.

This afternoon I went to see The Great Gatsby, something I had been looking forward to since I love the story and have seen the Robert Redford version several times (it’s one of my favorite movies). While I like Leonardo Dicaprio and Toby Maguire, who star in the movie, I have to say that this version (the 4th) just can’t compare to Redford and Mia Farrow in the 1974 movie. My opinion.

This card is CASE’d (copy and share everything) from my friend Catherine Harwood who happens to also be my up-line. I love this set from the Spring mini catalog and love what Catherine did so much I just copied her design and will be using it in this weeks classes. One of the advantages of our monthly demonstrator meetings she holds is the two projects we make. I always know that I will have great projects for my classes. You can see more of Catherine’s cards on her blog 321 Stamp. The splatter on the card is from French Foliage which is on the retirement list. This was the first time I had used Pewter Embossing Powder and I really like the color of it. Not as bright as silver.

Secret Garden

Micky's Card

Fellow demonstrator Mickey Roberts shared this beautiful card at our demonstrator meeting yesterday. I had not bought this set but now I think I am going to have to get it. I wish I had gotten a little better photo of it but I think you can see all of the detail she puts into her cards. The layering of the flowers just makes them pop. And even though you can’t see it there are flowers inside the card too. Mickey is known for making the inside of her cards as special as the outside. You can see more of Mickey’s creations on her blog Paper Conversations.

One More Nature Walk

NW

There are so many ideas using Nature Walk stamp set and less than two weeks left to get before it’s gone for good. I was inspired by demonstrator Sharon Burkert’s card which you can see here. The individual images are stamped with StazOn, punched out and then colored with Stampin’ Up! markers. Easy peasy. I believe the Enjoy your day stamp is from a retired set.

Stamps: Nature Walk, Fabulous Phrases

Ink: Black StazOn, Assorted Stampin’ Up! Markers

Paper: Vanilla, Black

Misc: 1 1/4″ Square Punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch, Pearls, Mini Glue Dots

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning was our monthly demonstrator meeting where people often bring projects to share. My friend and down-line, Doris Moran, made this beautiful sundress for her granddaughter using Stampin’ Up! designer fabric for the trim and the yo-yo flower centers.  The entire back of the dress is also embroidered with flowers. Lily is so cute and she’ll be adorable in this very special dress. She’s also one lucky little girl to have such a talented Grammy.
Who Doesn’t Like a Little Chocolate?
This is a card I received in a swap at a Stampin’ Up! event and thought it was so stinkin’ cute I knew I wanted to make it. I don’t have the name of the demonstrator and I’m sorry about that as I would like to give her credit for creating such a cute card. The greeting is from the stamp set Word Play which is retiring so you don’t have much time left to order it. There are two rows of the chocolate pieces. The bottom of the piece is 7/8″ square and the smaller piece is 3/4″ which is put on with a dimensional.
