Undefined – New Stampin’ Up Product

Have you ever wished you had a particular stamp that you just are not able to find. Well, Stampin’ Up! has the answer with their new product called Undefined. It’s a stamp carving kit and we were able to see it in action at convention.Underfined

Shannon West, Curriculum Developer and Trainer at Stampin’ Up!, demonstrated how easy it is to carve your own design and then showed us cards made with what she carved. She started with bacon strips. Bacon is so “in” right now. I don’t quite get it but when you get your new Holiday catalog look at the inside back cover. There is a stack of donuts and the one on top has bacon on it. Anyway, she carved the bacon and attached it to a wood block and then stamped with it. She also had previously carved some eggs and showed us this cute card.

Bacon and Eggs

Then she showed a can of soda with a straw that had been carved and finally put them all into a box with a carved set of donuts saying it was the perfect breakfast. Stinkin’ cute!

Stamp Carving

We were each given a piece of the rubber, a wood block, and the foam and could go carve our own stamp however I need time to figure out what my design is going to be. I have already ordered the kit and you can too because it is already available.

More Convention Photos

Convention’s opening night General Session began with a theme song which I  mentioned on an earlier post but I was not sure of the name of the person performing. It was Ryan Innes from The Voice for those of you who watch that show. It is one of my favorites.

Ryan-Innes

While a big part of Stampin’ Up is devoted to cards and we tend to make more cards than anything else in class there is a a lot of fantastic paper crafting being done and I thought I would share some of the clever things I particularly liked which were made by other demonstrators and on display.

A Little This & That

I spent today doing laundry and just trying to recoup from several days of limited sleep, lots of walking, and time change differences. So I thought I would share a few more photos from convention and Salt Lake City.

BagsThese are the gift bags I made for my downline and upline who attended convention. They were filled with the things you might need when away from home. Snacks, candy, chap stick, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, Tide to Go, and more.

Ribbon Dress

This dress was made entirely from looped ribbon in the window of a paper store called Papyrus.

This display board shows every size envelope that can be made with the Envelope Punch Board which will be coming out in September. It’s an amazing tool that makes envelope making so easy. I can’t show the photo of it yet but it’s just like the one made by We R Memory Keepers.

Butterfly wall

This wall of butterflies was above the entrance to the food court at the City Creek Mall. It was beautiful and with Stampin’ Up’s butterfly stamps, punches, and embosslets it could easily be recreated.

Just one of the many display boards of card samples we had to look at and photograph. Thousands of cards!

Stop by tomorrow for a few more photos.

Convention Day 3

The third and final day of convention was Saturday and jam-packed with activity.  We had more general sessions and break-away classes, plenty more give-aways and even some final swapping. In the past not everyone would win a prize from the Prize Patrol but this year they arranged it so that by the end of convention everyone had received something free. I won a great Christmas word stamp set and a tag kit however I am not allowed to show it yet. Have to wait until the holiday catalog comes out August 1st. Let me just say that I am very excited over a number of stamp sets and kits and accessories, especially after seeing samples made using them these past few days. There were 25 people who by the end of the day yesterday had not won anything and they received every stamp set in the holiday catalog.  I think I am coming home with about 7 new stamp sets, about 150 swaps, and so many new ideas.

The convention was over about 6PM Saturday and we were fortunate to have gotten complimentary tickets to a concert of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (360 members) and Orchestra with two amazing artist featured. Lindsey Stirling is a violinist who does contemporary dance while she plays. I couldn’t help but think of people who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time as she is playing and dancing at the same time. She has the 8th most viewed video on You Tube which I watched last night. Over 66 million views.  You can see it here. The other featured artist was Nathan Pacheco. What an amazing voice. These are both young people. Truly talented. And of course everyone knows about the phenomenal Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The auditorium holds 20,000 people – huge! And it was packed.

pioneer-day-2013

After returning to the hotel after the concert I had to pack and so I am now writing this post on Sunday afternoon in the Denver airport where I have a two and a half hour layover. We did have one of the best and funniest flight attendants on our flight from SLC to Denver. Very entertaining.

It’s another late night as I didn’t get home until 11:00 so I’m finishing this up and calling it a night.  Glad to be home in my own bed.

Convention Day 2

Before I get to day two of convention let me do a wrap-up of day one.

Stampin’ Up! was trying to set the Guinness World record for the most cards mailed from one location and we did it with 2,984 cards. We were told about this several weeks ago so that we could bring a card ready to mail. The card had to have a written message inside, verified, and ready to mail. The cards had to be deposited within a three hour window.

You can see that the count was just over 2,000 when I dropped my card. I had a demonstrator take this photo with the mailman and then I took her picture. Shortly after I realized I had lost my new iPad. I went into panic mode but it had been turned into Lost and Found. So thankful for the person who turned it in.

Today, day two, started out with another General Session where we had some great demonstrations and card ideas. We also were told about some great new products that will be coming out soon and I am very excited about them. There will be two new thinlet collections for the Big Shot to make cards with movable parts. There is a new product line coming called Underfined which includes all of the materials to carve your own stamp. It looks pretty easy and I’m anxious to try it. There are some more new things coming which I will tell you about later. Of course there was Prize Patrol several times today however I didn’t win … yet! Keeping my fingers crossed. I went to two presentations this afternoon, one on earning the incentive trip. I have to tell you that I am motivated into trying to earn one of the two trips for next year especially after they announced the destinations tonight. The Grand Vacation will be to Hawaii and the  Getaway will be to Washington DC. I would love to go to either of them and how nice would it be to go all expenses paid by Stampin’ Up!

Tonight was Awards Night followed by a party with all kinds of entertainment, fun, and of course food. Desserts of all kinds. Cake, cupcakes, parfaits, cookies, etc. There were a few tables that actually had a girl in the center and her skirt was made to be the table full of desserts.

Cake Collage

There were games where demonstrators could win tickets which would be put into drawings for catalog shopping sprees. We played Bingo but didn’t win anything. There were two aerialists who seemed to perform for hours, hanging upside down a great deal of the time.

And there was music and dancing with a group called the Spasmatics.

Convention Day 1

This was a wonderful day … until about 5 minutes ago when I accidentally lost the post I have just spent the last hour working on. And it is now 11:50 PM and I am beyond tired so I’ll get some of it re-done and finish the rest later.

The day started for Catherine and our good Massachusetts friends, Barbara and Sandy, going to check out this great grocery store we had heard about where we thought we would get something for breakfast. What an amazing store. If I had a place like this to shop I might even cook! There were fruits I had never even heard of, a sushi bar, and even a cooking school. This photo only shows about half of the store.

Hansons

Then it was off to the City Creek Mall where we had received a coupon for a complimentary neck, shoulder, and hand massage at the Aveda store. That was really nice! We did a little shopping before meeting the rest of our group at the Blue Lemon cafe for a late lunch. Such good food we may go back tomorrow.

Our convention officially began this afternoon at 5:30 with our first General Session. We went early to do some swapping and get in line to get in the auditorium. Us and the other 5,800 demonstrators! That’s a lot of people.

Convention swapping

I was standing in line next to a woman who had this beautiful lei around her neck. I actually thought it was paper flowers and went closer to look at it. It was actually real flowers which she brought with her from Hawaii. When I told her how pretty it was she took it off her neck and put it on mine saying it would bring good luck. What a generous and kind gesture as she only had one other which was for her upline. She told me to make this gesture which means something in Hawaiian but I’m not sure what.

Lei

The General Session opened with the theme song performed by someone from The Voice but I didn’t catch his name so am hoping to find out tomorrow. Shelli, the Co-founder and CEO, then came onstage with her entire family and there are a lot of them. She gave us a look back at the last 25 years and then then we got our convention bags filled with stamp sets and other goodies. I almost ordered a backpack last week but decided against it when I wasn’t sure I would get it before I left. Boy was I lucky since we got this really nice white and silver backpack.

Backpack

One of the things we all get in the convention bag is a colored band. Stampin’ Up! colors of course. Mine is Midnight Muse. The bands are used for Prize Patrol. When they announce this they show a color and if your band is that color you win a prize. There were two patrols tonight and Kaye Teronde in my downline won a prize. We’re hoping there are more winners in our group either tomorrow or Saturday.

Kaye

Speaking of downline, I am thrilled to have 5 people in my downline here at convention this year.

Downline

Libby, Sheila, Kaye, Carol, Doris and me

And now I really need to go to bed so I’ll say good-night and thanks for stopping by,

Travel Day

Today (Wednesday) we were  lucky enough to have good travel. No bad weather or delays in getting to Salt Lake City and we came to appreciate that even more when it was realized that some of my downline were stuck in Charlotte and experiencing very long delays. In fact I don’t think they were going to get in until around 10 PM.  Catherine and I got checked in and had a few hours to relax and iron clothes (yes, I iron everything!) before meeting the rest of our group and friends for dinner at the Garden Restaurant on the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Building in Temple Square. It has become a tradition for our first night here. Delicious food, great friends, and swapping! I already have some great ideas for future classes.

The Mormon Temple is right next door and the grounds all around it are the most beautiful I have ever seen. Flowers everywhere and large reflecting pools. We saw two different couples having wedding photos taken. It was extremely windy so I  hope their pictures turn out.

Flowers

This picture below is of the Temple taken through the glass window from the restaurant.

It is now 12:30 PM Florida time so I am fading fast …. Check back tomorrow for more convention updates. It officially begins tomorrow (Friday).

Creating the Catalog Cover

Stampin’ Up Idea Book and Catalogs are known for having great covers. This year is no exception. Click here for a behind the scenes look at the making of this years cover.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow is the final day to get everything ready to go to Salt Lake City. Swaps are done, downline gifts are done, so tomorrow I’ll be delivering stamp orders, cleaning up the stamp room (what a mess it is!) and figuring out clothes and packing suitcases. Thankfully Southwest still lets you check two bags. One for clothes, the other for swaps and other stamping stuff.  The bags won’t be totally full which gives me room to bring back all of the free product that they give us.
Paper Bows
Paper Bow
This card was inspired by demonstrator Mary Brown, aka Stamper Camper. You can see her card here.  These paper bows are showing up all over the internet on handmade cards and they are so easy to make.  Start with the oval punch and punch out two ovals. You really need to soften the paper by running it several times between a bone folder and your thumb. The paper will begin to curl. Once it has softened stick the ends together with a mini glue dot. Some people use a punched oval to make the end pieces which are attached under the bow. I tried that but didn’t much like it so I just cut some short pieces of card stock, cut the tail ends and attached under the bow pieces with mini glue dots. The center is a Dahlia embellishment. The Gumball Green Core’dinations cardstock was embossed with the Chevron Embossing Folder and then sanded with Stampin’ Sanding Block. Core’dinations cardstock’s inside layer is a monochromatic color which is revealed when it is sanded.
