Joyous Snowman

Snowman with banner

I got the idea for this snowman with the joy banner from demonstrator Mary Brown. You can see her card here.  The snowman is from the Snow Day stamp set and the banner is from A Banner Christmas stamp set. The word JOY is lined up straight on the stamp so I just cut the letters out. A little bow using bakers twine and it looks like the snowman is holding the banner. Pretty cute.

I have had my Christmas tree up since Thanksgiving afternoon and the house decorated but had not had time to put lights outside. So today was the day to do that. I have 5 strings that only half of the lights work. And my lighted wreath has one section that the lights quit too.  I put four sets of white lighted showflakes that sit on stakes in the ground this afternoon too. They twinkle and all of them worked when I put them out. I just went outside to see how it all looked since it has gotten dark and two of the sets are not working anymore. I think the Grinch has paid me a visit.

I'm waiting for my oldest son, Jeff, to arrive from Kentucky. He is driving down for just a few days. It's always good to see him even if it is a short visit.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed Sunday.

Cristmas Poinsettias

I have not posted much in the last week due to having so many special stamping events and getting things done for Christmas. I wanted to share a couple of Christmas cards.

Blue poinsettia

I had seen several cards using the poinsettia from Joyful Christmas stamp set in the blue/green color pallette and I thought they were so pretty. This is my take on that combination. The poinsettia and leaf stamps are stamped using Versamark on Vellum cardstock and then heat embossed using silver embossing powder. Then just sponge ink on the reverse side. I heat set the sponged ink for about 20-30 seconds just to make sure it was good and dry. There is two layers to the poinsettia. The smaller one on top is just the middle of the stamped image cut out and put on with a dimensional. The center is some of the silver glass glitter put on with a little Tombo glue. This was one of the favorites in my classes.

The card below used the same stamp set but has a totally different look. This card was inspired by Stampin' Up! demonstrator Nikki Spencer. You can see her card here. The poinsettia is embossed wth gold embossing powder on Cherry Cobbler cardstock and the leaves are done using Old Olive cardstock.

Last night my daugheter, Lynn Ann, and son, Jason, and I went to Hollywood Studios to see the Osborne Christmas lights and snow. I saw them last year but my kids had not and since we got the Disney Florida resident pass we can go almost anytime. We had a great time and a yummy dinner at the Brown Derby resturant.

Stampin’ Up! Donates to Today Show Toy Drive

Stampin’ Up! was  invited to appear on The TODAY Show again this year as part of the show’s annual Holiday Toy Drive. As part of the 25th anniversary, they focused on making a difference this year more than ever before. As a company, they donated approximately $1.5 million worth of product this year to different organizations—not to mention the personal efforts of demonstrators all around the world who have been supporting various causes of their own choice. Ending the year with the annual TODAY Show Toy Drive donation (which was more than $650,000 worth of product this year) was an ideal way to cap off celebrating of 25 years of making a difference! See Co-founder and CEO Shelli Gardner's daughter Sara Douglas making the Today Show presentation below.

Christmas in 3D

I wanted to share some of the things my friends have been making. I recently posted my holiday gum packages and Linda made these two:

santa gumtree gum

The tree on the gum package is a half of a circle folded back and forth to form the tree. Giving a gift card? It would just fit inside the gum package.

Pat made this cute little snowman from a battery operated tea light. By putting the ribbon loop at the top it can hang on the Christmas tree. The hat is a square punched piece of cardstock with the top corners rounded. The brim is part of a punched oval piece of cardstock. There is a scalloped circle backing the snowman which is just barely visible due to the angle of my photo. But you get the idea. The nose was colored using a permanent marker.

This hot cocoa pouch is made using the envelope liner die. Clever. It was designed by demonstrator Catherine Harwood who is my upline. We made this at one of our monthly demonstrator meetings. You can see her post and instructions on her blog 321stamp.

Gift Card Update – Much Easier

I haven't blogged for a few days …I have been having a lot of stamping events and I'm just plum tuckered out. Ha!  And I have 4 more this week. But I wanted to share an update to the gift card holder I posted a few days ago. Demonstrator and friend, Betty Herring, revised the measurements on this making it much easier to to put together. It winds up being just a little smaller but still adequate for holding a gift card.  Here are the measurements she came up with:

Cut the main piece of cardstock 8-1/2" x 5-1/4".  Score on the short side at 1-1/2" and 5-5/8". Score both long sides at 1/2".  Cut out the sides on the 1/2" score line down to the score line at the 5-5/8" mark. From this score line cut at an angle down about a half inch. Your cut piece will look like this:

gift card insides

Fold those half-inch flaps on the right end in towards the middle and put sticky strip on them. Then just fold this piece up to the middle section. It creates the pocket for the gift card.

Cut a 2nd piece of cs is 3-3/4" x 3-1/2" and score 3/8" on one long side. It will look like this"

gift card inside flapPut a piece of sticky strip under that top flap and attach about 1/4" below the top edge of the main piece. Slide the bottom of this into the pocket. This is what you attach your gift card to and when you open the flap this piece pops up revealing the gift card.

Some lucky person in my family is getting this gift card holder. Thanks Betty for remaking this.

‘Tis The Season

gift card holder

This gift card holder is the perfect idea for the people in your life that are hard to buy for, for the gift you need to mail away, for the mailman, the hair dresser, and so many more. Imagine their surprise when they open it …. The gift card pulls up from the pocket in the bottom when the flap is lifted up.

I used LeeAnn Greff's tutorial for the gift card holder and just made mine a Christmas one. You can see her directions here.

Wetlands – Quick & Easy

Wetlands

Wetlands stamp set was my favorite when the catalog came out in July and the first one I purchased and the one I keep going to over and over. Maybe it's because I have always loved the little sandpipers running along the beach. This card is one that my friend and fellow demonstrator, Terri, inspired. There are three score lines on the upper right of the card which are so easy to make using Stampin' Ups Simply Scored. If you want those score lines popped outward then you need to score on the left side of the cardstock. Then just flip it over and you have them on the right side and poppled outward.

Stamps: Wetlands

Ink: Early Espresso

Paper: White, Pool Party, Early Espresso

Misc: 3/4" Square Punch, 1" Square Punch, 1-1/4" Square Punch, Dimensionals, Simply Scored Scoring Tool

This morning started out with plumbing problems. Not the first time. There are several houses in a row in my subdivision that had mistakes made when they were built and the plumbing gets backed up from time to time. So I had to call and have someone come. Missed church and a church lunch afterwards. Not a good day. The plumber did get it fixed after digging up part of the flower bed to expose a clean out trap. However, walking over the front yard, we discovered an area that is sunken in quite a bit. He suggested it could be a broken pipe and because of that and the number of times I have had issues he felt it was time to go exploring with a video camera through the pipes to see just what is going on. Sounds messy and expensive. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Cute Boots

When it rains on your parade put on some really cute boots!  When I heard this I immediately thought of the rain boots in the stamp set Bootiful Occasions and wanted to make a card. Stampin' Up! use to sell personalized stamps so you could have anything printed on them within the allotted number of characters but the ones in this years catalog don't really work well for that. They have graphics on them or the fonts are different on different lines. I did contact Stampin' Up and was told they are working on something for the next years catalog that I might like. I hope so. In the meantime, I wanted to make this card so I printed the sentiment from my computer. This would make a great Thinking of You or Get Well card.
