Picture Perfect Birthday Party

You can never have too many birthday cards (or too many birthdays!) and the Picture Perfect Party suite in the Occasion’s catalog has everything for making fabulous birthday cards and party goodies.

Usually when I like a particular suite of products it begins with loving the stamp set but this time I fell in love with the Designer Series Paper with the photographic imagery on one side first. Those donuts look good enough to eat! After ordering the paper I knew I wanted the stamp set too. I was disappointed when, due to manufacturing issues, they had to discontinue the paper ribbon. Don’t overlook the adhesive backed sequins which are included in another suite of products because they work very well with the birthday products.

The stamped party blowers are done with 3 different stamps but because they are photopolymer they are so easy to line up. And very easy to cut out. I adhered one of them flat against the card the the other is popped up with a couple of the mini dimensionals. The sentiment on the front of the card is also popped up with dimensionals. When I made this card I actually grabbed RIch Razzleberry ink instead of Berry Burst which is the better match. However I think it goes ok but in the supply list below I entered Berry Burst.

Flying Home Baby Card

It is very rare that I need a baby card so I don’t usually purchase stamp sets specifically for that kind of card. So of course I need one now so I decided to use the adorable set Flying Home. The nest with the baby birds certainly can be adapted for new parents even if they aren’t having triplets. (smile)

I enjoy coloring and with the new Stampin’ Blends it is so easy to look like a pro. Some prefer starting with the lighter shade and then adding the darker one and others like going from dark to light. I have tried both ways and find either way works well. When I did the light Daffodil shading around the nest I used a circular motion instead of going back and forth.

The “hello” and the circle around it are from the Tabs for Everything stamp set. The scalloped circular punch is retired but it worked so well with this. The sentiment inside the card is from Baby Bear stamp set.

Do you see that little black spot on the bottom left of the card? I was just finished making this card and had black ink on my finger and got it on the card. Does that ever happen to you? Ugh!

A Little Christmas Left

I cleared out and packed away all of my Christmas things … except for the trees! I still have two tress up and decorated. I just haven’t found the combination of time and energy. And I still like looking at them. Maybe next week. (sigh)

But I wanted to share the pictures I took this morning of my poinsettia plant. I have one out front and have passed it so many times coming in and out that I didn’t pay much attention to it anymore. When I walked by this morning it was heavy with water drops from an earlier rain. It caught my attention because the raindrops just sparkled. It was beautiful and I was reminded to look at the ordinary to see the extraordinary.

Since I have been taking a few black and white photos lately I decided to get one of the poinsettia. I love the rich red color of the leaves in the photo above however I like the B&W too. Which one is your favorite?

Get ready. I hear we have another cold spell coming next week.

Sending Love & Hugs

I wanted to make a card for classes that could be used as a Valentine’s day card but also for other occasions so I chose the sentiment from Ribbon of Courage stamp set and paired it with the heart and love die cuts from Sunshine Wishes Thinlets and the Painted with Love DSP. That paper is gorgeous with all of the gold running through it. I added a strip  of gold foil behind the left side of the DSP.

This card could easily be used for so many different occasions. The sheet of the DSP that I used for this card has Calypso Coral and Powder Pink with the gold however other sheets have bolder colors (Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry). After making the card I saw another demonstrator’s post about finding tins at Target that matched this paper so off I went to Target to check it out.  They had 4, I bought 2, and then showed my class so those 2 may be gone by now. They say Recipe on the front but that can easily be covered with something that says Cards. The tin even has dividers which match the paper and tin.

Make a Card, Send a Card

Be the reason someone smiles today. Make a card, send a card.

I don’t usually make New Years resolutions but I am going to make it my goal this year to send more cards. I have boxes and boxes of cards from class samples and I generally do send cards for holidays and birthdays but what about all those other days during the year? A card just to tell someone that you are thinking about them or “just because” can be sent anytime.

People stay in touch these days through internet, Facebook, Instagram, texting, etc. But there is nothing that compares to getting an actual card in the mail.

  1. It makes a difference. Seriously! This is one of the best and easiest ways of Spreading Joy!
  2. It can be enjoyed over and over again. Many will. Someone dealing with a chronic illness will keep the card close as it is an encouragement!
  3. It will bring YOU joy! Any time we are doing something for someone else, your heart is warmed by it.
  4. An amazing Ministry – You can have a ministry for others – especially to the sick, elderly and even the everyday, ordinary people that just need someone to care.  It’s a great way to minister to those in your world. Contact a nursing home or assisted living facility to see if there is someone who doesn’t get mail and send them cards.
  5. Sending cards is like sending Love and HUGS in the mail!
  6. Sending a card to someone reminds them that they matter, that they are important.
  7. Our mailboxes are so full of bills and junk mail. It’s always exciting to get an actual card.
  8. You can turn a normal day into an extraordinary day with one stamp. Priceless

Have a great day

Happy 2018!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a safe and fun New Year’s Eve. I rarely do anything on New Year’s Eve and am often asleep at midnight. But this year with my son and his family here from Kentucky we decided to have a family party with some good food and games.

You know I do CD calendars every year so January is the best way to start the year on my blog.

I made and gave away 20 calendars this year for Christmas gifts.  I carefully labeled each one with a post-it note and then realized I didn’t have one for myself!  So I made 2 more and gave another one away. If you’re going to make 1 you might as well make 2.

Stamping on Candles

I had never tried stamping on candles until a few weeks ago. I decided to give it a try and made some Christmas gifts. My first candle was a bit of a disaster but then I got the hang of it.

I made the snowflake base using a retired die and cut one in navy card stock and another using the white glimmer paper. I’ll get to the candle directions in a bit.

Because I was making these for gifts I stamped bags and tissue to match.

I stamped on a piece of white cardstock cut the same size as the bag and then attached it to the bag.

To stamp a candle you need white tissue paper and a heat tool.

  • Stamp design on tissue paper.
  • Cut as much of the excess tissue paper off as you can.
  • Place tissue paper on candle and wrap tightly with wax paper keeping what excess wax paper there is to the back using that to hold on to.

  • Use a heat tool on low setting to heat the design being careful not to use too much heat. Heat until you see the design get glossy.
  • Gently peel off the wax paper. If you can still see the outline of the tissue paper heat a little more.

Have a safe and happy New Years Eve

Christmas Family Fun

I wish I had a new card to post but I haven’t had time to do any stamping due to Christmas and family visiting here from Kentucky. So I will share some family photos.

Our plan was to go to Universal on Tuesday. We got there a half hour after it opened, paid $30 for prime parking, and got in line for tickets only to find out that the park was already so packed that without paying extra for the express pass the lines would be 3-4 hours long for the popular attractions. We weren’t going to pay all that money just to stand in lines so we switched gears and went to Disney Springs. There is the best new attraction there which is a hyper-reality Star Wars experience. Similar to virtual reality. We wore helmets and a backpack with a battery and were turned into Storm Troopers! It was SO MUCH FUN! If you live locally you really should go do this. It’s about $30.

 New shirts!

I gave the girls each one of my samplers from last year.

Today we had to go to Melbourne so stopped at Grill’s for a late lunch and then on the way home stopped off at the beach. It was a bit chilly with the temperature at 49 degrees but that didn’t stop Anderson and Sofia from getting their feet wet.

This was just perfect after a chilly afternoon.

I do have several new stamp sets from the Occasions catalog including some of the Sale-a-bration stamps so I am anxious to start playing with them. Soon …
