Retreat

This past weekend I was in Leesburg at the Methodist Women's Retreat. This was the 21st year that my friend, Alice, and I have gone together and something we look forward to all year long. The campground is one of the most peaceful, spiritual places I know. Now don't misunderstand, this gal is not camping! There are motel type units and a large dining hall for the meals that are always included in the weekend. Alice and I have a routine. Check-in starts at 3:00 on Friday so we leave early in the day and stop in Mt. Dora for lunch, always at the Goblin Market. Then we check out some of the quaint shops before heading on to the retreat. There are two key speakers and breakout sessions on Saturday with a variety of different offerings including speakers, yoga, exercise, crafts, and more. You can pick 3 of them … or none of them. One of the things I like about this retreat is that they tell you up front the weekend is to be what you need it to be and if you need time to sleep, then sleep. If you need to just be alone, then be alone. If you want to spend time in the swings by the lake then do that. There is never any requirements to do anything. So we went to all of the key speakers sessions as they were very good. The main speaker was a female pastor who not only had a great message, but she was so funny. And we went to a couple of the breakout sessions and then spent time reading and relaxing. There are always three different retreats, each with different speakers and music. For several years we have been selecting the weekend we attend based on the music because we love the band. It is Maureen Still and band from Seattle.

MSTILLBANDIn the photos above check out the blue scarf. Maureen is afraid of the alligators and so every year someone gives her some kind of alligator gift. That scarf is an alligator. A lot of their music is fast paced, lively, and makes you want to clap along but there are also some very special, inspirational songs. Maureen writes most of the music. Here is a song she wrote for her daughter called  Mother's Prayer:

There is always a prayer board where anyone can write down a request on a sticky note and post it. If you leave one you are asked to take one and pray for that person throughout the year. I usually find one that tugs at my heart. This year I am praying for a woman and the elderly man she discovered living in a mobile home eating applesauce sandwiches and who had no running water. He served in 3 wars and has no family at all. The woman is working on trying to get him some VA assistance.

lecCollageYou can see from the photo above why I love it here. God is surely in this place.

I couldn't resist snapping this photo of Alice who dozed off while sitting outside in the sun reading a book.

alice

There were some other women from my church there this weekend too and I'm sorry that we didn't get a photo of us all together. Maybe next year.

I got home Sunday afternoon and back to my world of stamping. I had two stamp-a-stack classes yesterday, one in the morning and the second in the afternoon. I am still working on cleaning up from all of that and I have this weeks class cards to prep so I better get back to work.

Hugs,

And the inside:

Geometrical

The Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper was the inspiration for this card and the stamp set called Geometrical the perfect choice to use with it. I really do like the bright colors. There is a chevron stamp in the set however I chose to use the Chevron Border Punch to create the chevron pattern. There is a Triangle Punch which would punch out the stamped triangles but since I don't own that yet we just cut them out.

Here is the inside of the card:

This stamp is part of the Bring On the Cake stamp set. Just by selectively coloring in the numbers with markers it's easy to see this card is for someone turning 7. Hmm, my grandson, Anderson, will be 7 in April so you know where this card is going.

Stamps: Geometrical, Bring on the Cake

Ink: Strawberry Slush, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Black StazOn

Paper: Smoky Slate, Bermuda Bay, White

It had been several days since I posted anything. I have had a very busy week with needing to get 7 different cards done this week and paper and supplies cut and ready for about 30 people. I had two classes this week and have four classes scheduled for next week plus a fundraiser vendor fair. Phew! A lot of work but I do love doing this. Hugs,

I have a friend who is currently in Africa and has been posting the most amazing photos of all kinds of animals on her Facebook page. Going on a photo safari has been a dream but one I most likely will never realize. So I'm off to Animal Kingdom which will be a fun day and I will see the animals on the safari ride (which is great) but it won't quite compare to all of lions and giraffes and elephants Sherri is seeing just outside her tent.

Kind Hearts

Last week I had a request for another Valentine's Day card. Since we had been doing Valentines several weeks before I decided this card would be good for anyone who needed a Valentine but also would make a great thank you card for those who didn't want a Valentine. I pulled out a retired sentiment for this card because it just was so perfect.

I have always loved using Stampin' Up's Designer Series Paper. It makes it so easy to design a card if you start with a piece of this paper because your color palette is already decided. The paper I used for this card is from the Occasions Catalog and is called Fresh Prints Paper Stack. The colors in this paper are Real Red, Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake, and White. So although I used a piece that has no red in it, the paper made me realize that Real Red and Coastal Cabana is a great color combination and one that I never would have thought of. Paper Stacks are something fairly new that Stampin' Up has been offering. You get 48 sheets, 4 each of 12 double-sided designs, that are 4-1/2" x 6-1/2". When cut like the piece I used on this card you can get 3 per sheet. That equates to having enough for 144 cards!  All this for just $6.95. I think it's one of the best deals ever.

My Kentucky Trip

Last week I went to Kentucky to visit my mother, my son Jeff and his wife Becky and grandkids, Sofia and Anderson. Oh boy, was it cold for this Florida gal. Temps as low as 9 degrees. And there was snow which I was happy about. I miss snow as long as I don't have to shovel it or drive in it.

This snowman stood tall in my son's front yard. I assumed the grandkids made it and was surprised when I found out it was my son. He is a painting contractor so notice the paintbrush in the snowman's hand.

snowmanI gave some thought to going outside and making a snowman but never got around to it. And I didn't really have the right clothes and boots for doing it.

My grandson, Anderson, who is 6 has gotten into football trading cards. He spent hours one morning sorting through them and putting them in the album.

I took one of the FREE Stampin' Up banner kits from Sale-a-bration to my granddaughter, Sofia, who is 11. She put it together right away, picked out some photos to put on it with the mini clothespins and we hung it in her room.

Sofia CollageHer photos were a bit large so they cover up a lot of the banner.

My mother, who is 92, lives in an independent living home where meals and housecleaning are provided. I stayed at my son's and would spend the day with Mom and then have the evenings with my son and his family.

Although it was a short trip it was great. I usually take Airborne before I go on any kind of trip especially when I am flying. So many people, so many germs. Well, I forgot to take it this time and you guessed it … caught a cold.

Have a blessed Sunday,

Leadership Swap Card

This is one of the cards I swapped for in Houston from demonstrator Diane Evans. I liked it so much I decided to get this stamp set and we made the card in class this week. Everyone liked it a lot. I didn't change anything about her design. The gold ink goes so well with the black and Bermuda Bay cardstock.

I'm excited to be going to Kentucky tomorrow to spend a few days with my mother, son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. And excited that they have snow and expect more this weekend. It's one of the things I miss the most living in Florida. I don't really want to have to drive in it or shovel it so going for a brief visit is just perfect.

Gray Skies

This card was so appropriate for stamp class today since it poured rain almost all day long. The banner punch is perfect for making the sun and it is FREE right now from the Sale-a-Bration brochure with any qualifying order of $50 or more. The Decorative Dots Embossing Folder and the sentiment inside the card are also FREE products being offered from Sale-a-Bration. The clouds are cut using one of the word bubble framelits which can be found in the Occasions mini catalog.

And the inside …

Stamps: Banner Greetings, See Ya' Later

Ink: Crushed Curry

Paper: Smoky Slate, Crushed Curry, White, Silver Glimmer, Regals DSP Stack

Misc: Banner Punch, 1-3/4" Circle Punch, Dimensionals, Candy Dots, Chevron Ribbon, Decorative Dots Folder, White Bakers Twine, Word Bubble Framelits

Tips: Punch 8 banners using the banner punch out of the middle of the Crushed Curry mat. Since it will be covered over it's a way to save paper. Attach the punched banners to the top, bottom, and two sides on the back of the punched circle first and then fill in with the remaining four pieces. This makes it easier to space them correctly. Use mini glue dots to attach the ribbon, sliver glimmer paper and especially the stamped banner sentiment on top of the glimmer paper.

My grandson, Alex, had his last basketball game of the season tonight. He plays on the Titusville High School JV team. It was a great game and especially since they won. Woo hoo!  We were sitting up on the top bleacher and about half way through the game several of the high school kids came and sat in the section in front of us. I wish I had a photograph but let me see if I can paint a picture for you …. One boy was dressed in a green skin suit from head to toe. There was not one part of his body that you could see. Completely green. Another boy was in a blue skin suit however he did not have his head covered. One boy wore a wolf mask, another a horse head. One boy had on Mickey Mouse ears, another wore a red, white, and blue helmet. And there were several other kids sitting with the group. I'm sure it was all done to attract attention which it most certainly did as they cheered the team on. It was all in good fun and quite entertaining. During half time there was an 8 minute "game" between two youth basketball teams. They looked to be about 6-9 year olds. These high school kids cheered loudly for these young players encouraging them so. All in all, a great night for basketball.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
