Stamping With Fran

Today I went to demonstrator Fran Sabad's house to a stamping class. I met Fran several years ago at Convention and when we realized she lives in the same neighborhood as my son in Lexington she invited me to come stamp with her. After several invites over a few years I finally was able to make it happen. Fran is an amazing stamper and has a blog you can see here. She has a great stamping space for her classes and an different space where she creates. I have to saay I was a bit envious of all her room.

Here are two of the four cards we made today. They are right out of the pages of the new catalog. See if you can find them in the catalog.

I'm still visiting my son and his family. They are constantly on the go between working and Anderson's ball practices and games and Sofia's dance lessons and rehersals. She has a recital this coming weekend. So looking forward to that. Today Anderson and I went to the mall. I gave him $20 to spend and he knew immediately that he wanted socks. He's 8 years old. Not just any old socks. No, these socks were Labron James socks and cost $20 a pair. I bought some socks yesterday because it's chilly here and I didn't come prepared for those temperatures and I got 3 pair for $6.  My feet are warm and Anderson's one happy little boy.

Check back in a day or two for my product shares. Lots of ribbon and paper.

A few days ago I got to see my grandson, Anderson, play football and today he had a basketball game. What fun. He is 8 years old and is pretty good with both sports. He has a great spiral throw in football

It was so much fun watching the basketball game. When the kids from the opposing teams are fighting to get the ball they just kind of all fall down to a sitting position on the floor. It's very amusing.

Today I had lunch with my son, Jeff, at the Cheesecake Factory. There are just way too many choices on that menu.

After what seemed forever I finally narrowed it down to a salad:

And I didn't even have cheesecake! What a good girl I was.

50 Years …

I'm in the Bluegrass State. That's Kentucky for those of you who may not know.  Visiting family, 50th reunion, and granddaughter's dance recital. Saturday night was my high school 50th reunion. I still can hardly believe it's been that long. How can it be? I actually went to two different high schools because we moved from Iowa to Kentucky in the middle of my sophomore year. So I have another reunion scheduled in Iowa in September.

Judy Collage

This is my BFF Judy from my Kentucky high school days. We were in a Girl Scout troup and we also were the leaders of a Brownie troup. We had the best Girl Scout group. We learned how to play bridge there. Our leader chaperoned us (along with my mother) to the State Basketball tournament in Louisville. I don't think girls that age even have chaperones these days but back in the 60's we did because we spent the night in a hotel. There was always a line of cars with our boyfriends picking us up after the meetings. Lots of good memories.

IMG_5646There is a great story here. The high school always allowed a Senior Skip Day … until our senior year. The class before us got into some kind of trouble so they did away with it. Of course we were more than upset not to be able to skip so we decided that if the entire class skipped what could they do? We spread the word and when the day came 9 of us actually skipped. Four girls, five boys. We had all told our parents about the plan ahead of time. The school tracked us down at the home of one of the girls. We were playing bridge. Such good kids, really. We were told we could come back to school without getting into more trouble but would have to be paddled. Can you imagine that!  Wouldn't happen today for sure. And they only offered this to the girls, not the boys. So of course we didn't do it. The next morning first period we were all called into the principals office and lectured and then suspended for 3 days. We girls hold the distinction of being the first girls ever to be suspended from the high school. This photo is of 5 of those infamous 9.

Special Cards

One of the reasons I became a Stampin' Up demonstrator is because I have a love affair with cards. Always have. Even before I started stamping and making my own cards I bought a lot of cards. I had a large box with dividers in it for different categories and even for special people in my life. I had another box of them that I kept at work back in the days when I was still working and coworkers would come to me to buy a card when they needed one. Some cards I liked so much I wouldn't even send them. I just wanted to keep them. I still have so many of those cards. And now that I make cards I have even more boxes of cards all categorized. When I get cards from family and friends I often save them. I save all of the handmade cards and many of the other "store bought" cards I get because to me they are just special. When my father passed away I found that he had saved so many of the cards I had given him through the years. I have cards that my parents gave or sent to each other. I am so happy to have them.

This card was from my dad to my mother dated 1940 just a few months before they got married. It's in pretty good shape for being 75 years old.

Mom sent this card to Dad when he was in the Navy during WWII. There are several others during that time that were specific to those in the war.

Send a card. A card lets someone know you are thinking of them, that you love them,  that they are special.

Blooming With Kindness

This card is CASE'd from one I saw by Julie Gearinger. She is a very talented stamper and demonstrator and I immediately wanted to make this card. I changed some of the colors and I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to my card which doesn't show up very well in the photo.

kindness

And the inside:

kindness inside

The flowers are stamped on Naturals Ivory cardstock with StazOn ink. I stamped and cut a mask using a Post-it Note to cover the first stamped flower in the lower corner and then stamped the other two flowers. The mask keeps the 2nd and 3rd images from overlapping the 1st one. When I cut a mask for a class project I keep 3 sheets of the Post-it Notes together and stamp the image on the top sheet and then cut out all three layers at one time. While the other two don't have the stamped image on them it's easy to line up over whatever you are wanting to mask. I like having a few extra especially when several people will be using a mask.

Next color the flowers with a marker. You don't have to be terribly careful when coloring but you do need to leave some small "white" spaces, areas that you do not color. I used Indigo. Then I added a line of color with both the Pistachio and Crumb Cake markers around the edges of the flowers. Once you have this done spritz it with alcohol which dries faster than using water. Putting the cardstock in a box makes spritzing a little less messy. You can either let it air dry or speed it up by using a heat tool. This is what it will look like before you spritz it with the alcohol.kindness spritz

I then added some background design. Those Post-it-Note masks make this easy to do and not overlap those images with the stamped flowers. The last step was adding some glitter.

Stamps: Blooming With Kindness, Georgeous Grunge, Summer Silhouettes

Ink: Island Indigo, Pistachio Pudding & Crumb Cake Markers, Black Ink

Cardstock: Naturals Ivory

Misc: Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Two-Way Glue Pen, Alcohol, Spray Bottle

Happy Memorial Day!

Fun Times

This past week I have had some great fun with family and friends. Part of our Christmas present from my son Jason was tickets to see Beauty and the Beast in Orlando at the Dr. Phillips Theater. He and his girlfriend, Christina, and my daughter, Lynn Ann and I went to dinner first and then to the play. That new theater is just beautiful and the play was amazing.

family

Actually earlier in the day before heading to the play Lynn Ann, Jason and I went to pick berries. We got blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries and they got a few tomatoes too. (I don't like tomatoes)

Over the weekend Lynn Ann and I had tickets to the Cocoa Village Playhouse to see Fiddleron the Roof. It is one of my very favorite plays and everything I have ever seen at this little theater is outstanding.

I just spent a couple of days in St. Augustine with a friend. We went on a sunset sailing cruise on a 5 sail schooner. I didn't get any pictures of it but did get this nice sunset photo with a different boat.

We went through the Lightner Museum and the Presbyterian Church and of course the old Fort.
