Happy New Year! + January CD Calendar

I hope everyone had a happy New Year’s Eve. Mine was quiet and with a houseful of company it was nice to have that quiet time. Besides I’m not one to party and be on the road with the people who party too much.

New Year’s day was also quiet. It began with my daughter and I taking my grandkids out for breakfast. Then they left to go back to KY. So the afternoon was spent washing and remaking beds and cleaning up. It’s amazing how messy a house can get after a week of company. But so worth every bit of mess and clutter to have my whole family here for Christmas.

So on to a new year. Do you make resolutions? I don’t but I do have a few goals for this year. The biggest one is to simplify my life which will begin with getting rid of clothes I don’t wear and things I don’t use. (smile)

2019 CD Calendar – January

Tags, Bags, & Treats

Every year I have a class to make some Christmas tags, a few decorated gift bags and some treats. Here are just a few of the things we made this year.

I used some retired DSP for this tag background and then fussy cut the snowmen out of this years Santa’s Workshop paper  which was so popular it sold out quickly. I love fussy cutting so I cut out the snowmen for all of the stampers who came to the class. The snowflakes are cut from the Blizzard Thinlit Die which is 4″ x 5″ so you get a flurry of snowflakes all at once.

The idea for this tag came from Patty Bennett. I made a few changes to make my Santa down the chimney tag. The feet are punched from a retired heart punch, and the bag from the owl builder punch. The stamped tag is from the set Sincerely Santa.

Another set of tags using the Santa Workshop DSP.  Most of the images were die cut using Santa’s Signpost Framelits. There was a little more fussy cutting on some of the images that didn’t have a matching die.

This snowman treat holder is one of my favorites and is done using the envelope punch board and a few punches. He opens up to reveal a chocolate treat. Can you identify all of the punches that were used?

This again uses Santa’s Workshop DSP and 3 of the Tiny Treat Boxes put together with  glue dots.

The center box holds a tea light with one of the wreath embellishments on top.

Making Christmas Bright stamp set was used to make this gift bag which would easily hold a gift card along with a small treat. The string of lights was perfect for stamping on the gold striped bags and markers used to color the bulbs.

There were a few more projects which I have not photographed yet.

I had a very quiet Christmas. My son and his family are coming from Kentucky. They left yesterday so we decided to have our Christmas today, the 26th. My youngest son was in Jacksonville and my daughter was at her dad’s house. The KY group should have gotten here around midnight but at 9:30 last night my son called and said the car broke down in Georgia. They had actually just witnessed a two car accident so although a breakdown is bad news it could have been worse. They called AAA for a tow and were checking into a hotel. I hope they will find someone early who can fix the car and that it’s not something serious.

Merry Christmas!

Some of my favorite childhood memories were of Christmas caroling with my family and friends. I grew up in Iowa so it was always very cold with lots of snow. Even though it was freezing I loved it.

Wishing you a very merry Christmas.

Signs of Santa

Only four may days until Christmas. I know Santa is busy getting all those presents ready for delivery.

When I first got the Holiday Catalog I wasn’t planning on getting the Signs of Santa stamp set. It’s cute but you know, can’t get everything! But after I started seeing projects using it I quickly changed my mind. And it became my favorite and most used set from the catalog.

This was one of the cards from my Christmas card class this year. He is just so stinkin’ cute. The embossing folder is Swirls & Curls. I used Stampin’ Blends for coloring Santa and the North Pole. On a sad note, I lost the smallest snowflake die after the first use. The hazards of stamping in a messy space.

This gift card holder was from my regular stamp classes.Again, Santa was colored using Stampin’ Blends. Notice the outline with the light Smoky Slate Blend. It really does add to the image giving it a look of some dimension.

When you open the card the inside piece pulls up the gift card.

While I don’t always do it I love have a coordinating envelope to go with a card. This is my favorite way to decorate the envelope and so easy. Just cut a piece of 6″ x 2-1/2″ piece of DSP and attach it to the back flap of the envelope. Then simply turn the flap over and trim to fit. One of my goals for next year is to have no naked envelopes!

Only a few more days to place an order this month. There are some great buys on the Clearance Rack and the Holiday Retiring List is out with some products on sale. You can order through my online store here and I will give you a coupon to use in January for 20% of the amount of your order before shipping and tax. That coupon will come in handy to reach the $50 amount needed for FREE Sale-a-bration product.

Thanks for stopping by. I’m off today to see the new Grinch movie.

Well, wishing for elves to help me finish up all I want to do before Christmas never materialized. I suppose they are just too busy helping Santa. While my house looks turned upside down right now, I am getting things crossed off my list. Stamping, baking, laundry, etc. It’s been a busy day so far. And it was cool enough this morning to have a fire going so all is good.

Since I’ve been a little neglectful in keeping up with posts I hope to catch up this week and share some cards and projects I have been doing in classes. These two cards use the stamp set Making Christmas Bright and the coordinating Christmas Bulb Builder Punch.

The good news is this is not retiring but will be carried over. However the bundle is on the retiring list as Stampin’ Up! never carries over a bundle after the first launch of that bundled price.

That’s all for today but be sure to check back for more Christmas goodies this week.

Bag & Card Combo

I absolutely love this quick and easy gift bag and card project that I learned how to make from demonstrator Rhonda Wade. It uses 2 sheets of cardstock and 1 full sheet of Designer Series Paper.

1 sheet of DSP

  • Cut a 4″ strip and cut that strip into 3 pieces (4″ x 4″)
  • Cut the remaining piece into 2 pieces 5-1/4″ x 8″

2 sheets of 8-1/2″ x 11″ cardstock

  • Score 1-1/2″ on the both of the long sides of both sheets of cardstock.
  • Score 2-3/4″ on one short side.
  • Cut on the side score lines from the bottom up to the 2-3/4″ score line creating flaps
  • Attach Tear & Tape as indicated by the photos.

Side 1

Attach Tear & Tape also to the underneath side of the two flaps at the bottom.

Side 2

Remove the paper from the Tear & Tape and fold the flaps in creating the bottom of the bag. Remove remaining paper and insert one side into the the 2nd side.

You can see how to put this together in the short video below.

The bag below is one I made for a friends birthday present. Of course stamping the edge of the tissue paper adds a final wow to  your bag.

I’m just a bit behind schedule but that’s the way I do my best work. (smile) The tree is up with lights, no decorations yet. And the rest of the house isn’t decorated either. It seems my tree is always an issue. I don’t have a big space for a tree so mine is not too wide but very tall. It is about 25 years old and still in pretty good shape although it is leaning a bit which I am working on. I gave up years ago trying to pack it away in a box and so each year I move it out to the garage and wrap some old sheets around it. When it’s time to bring it back in the house I think it won’t last another year it looks so mashed and pretty ugly. But with some fluffing it comes back to life. But the lights are another story. I leave the lights on and every year there seems to be at least one section that doesn’t work. This year it was the middle section. I hate this part of doing the tree. Had to take off that section of lights and add another. Now to find time to decorate. And then it’s on to finishing up my Christmas cards, CD calendars, and a few other projects. What I need is a few elves to give me a hand.

Thanks for looking,

Stampin’ Up! OnStage part 3

Today comes the good stuff. Sneak Peeks of some of the upcoming new products from the Occasion and Sale-a-Bration catalogs which will be available beginning January 3rd.

First of all I am starting with my favorite set which I showed you yesterday. In case you missed it, it is called Wonderful Romance and the suite is called Floral Romance.

I love everything in this suite! The embossing folder is beautiful and just look at those framelits. The one on the far right creates such a beautiful die cut edge. The DSP pack is part regular paper and part printed vellum. Here’s a close up of the card:

This is the All my Love Suite which has 2 stamp sets and coordinating dies. The ribbons are gorgeous and next to them are epoxy heart droplets in 3 sizes. And they can be colored with any of the Stampin’ Blends.

Next up is the Happiness Blooms Suite with such bright colors. There’s another great embossing folder and the enamel dots come in 3 sizes and 5 colors.

This suite has that gingham DSP that I am in love with. 5 colors! The white ribbon is white burlap. And there is a new butterfly stamp set with a coordinating punch. It’s on my shopping list.

Notice the new adhesive backed sequins. Half of them are flowers. Again, 5 colors.

For those who are always wanting more masculine sets, this may be one for your list. It’s called Geared Up Garage and has some pretty cool framelits. See that one on the far right? It’s gears, a bunch of gears.

Now here are some random photos I took while there. I didn’t capture the entire boards for these but the samples are great.

Sweetest Thing Stamp Set

Needlepoint Nook

Very excited for this. Rectangle stitched framelits.

Some of the Sale-a-Bration products. The organdy ribbons come as a combo pack of 5 colors. The two black looking squares are actually 2 new foil papers. A combo pack of Grapefruit Grove and Lovely Lipstick. And the bottom “Post” cards are from a kit. This is just part of what will be available.

So while I can’t show you everything from the 2 catalogs this sneak peak should get you excited for it. I have already begun my shopping list. How about you?
