Wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and precious memories. 

My daughter and son and their families will be here later to share what has become a favorite Thanksgiving meal of soup and a salad bar. We each make a different soup (I made two) and put out anything you could imagine for salad and we each make our own. The table is set and I just need to make two desserts.

This is also a day for remembering my brother who was born November 26th and it happened to be Thanksgiving day too. He left us way too soon. It’s been 28 years. He was 5 years older than me and a wonderful big brother. I can still hear his laughter. It was the best.

I am feeling grateful and blessed today. I hope you are too.

Beautiful Autumn Thanksgiving Card

Today’s card is my version of the scrappy strip technique . It is a fun way to use up bits and pieces of paper.  I love this Beautiful Autumn bundle because it includes the 3 little punches (see below).

I embossed the Mint Macaron cardstock before cutting it into strips. Then you just cut angled strips of that and the DSP and alternate it with the 1/4″ strips of copper foil. I used a mat of Mint Macaron cardstock and put down 4 rows of adhesive and then attached the strips to that. Cut your strips a little longer than you need and when finished just trim the excess away. I attached this completed piece to a mat of copper foil. Punch out some leaves from the foil before attaching it since it will be covered. The sentiment is embossed with copper embossing powder (sadly, it has retired). The leaves are Mango Melody cardstock stamped with Cajun Craze ink and Merry Merlot cardstock stamped with Cherry Cobbler ink. The acorn is Crumb Cake stamped with Soft Suede ink. There is also a leaf punched out with copper foil paper. 

 

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? My family and I are doing a very non-traditional meal. We are having soup and salad bar. We have done this several times in the past, sometimes for Thanksgiving and sometimes for Christmas. When I asked if they wanted turkey and all the trimmings or soup and salad they all chose soup and salad. My daughter and son and I all make different soups so there’s lots to try and leftovers to take home. For the salad, we put out a “fix your own salad” table with everything you could imagine putting in a salad. Add some rolls and desserts and it’s a yummy meal. And so easy.

I’m Back! November CD Calendar & On Stage @ Home

Oh boy, it’s been awhile since I posted anything but I’m back and will try to do better.  I have been busy working on next years CD calendar designs and getting ready for classes this week. It takes a bit of planning to make sure you aren’t using the same color ink for duplicate pages and that you have enough blocks. I own quite a few blocks and this event uses every one of them. Once I have it all planned it’s a pretty easy class. Each month’s supplies are in its own plastic container and people just pick up one of them and create their page. Once finished they return it to the table and pick up another one. This has become my most popular class. With the pandemic I had not been doing classes and I got several inquiries hoping I was going to do this one. This is my 11th year doing the calendar. I always give them to my family and a few special friends. This year I am making 19 to give away. Whew! That’s a lot of work.

Stampin’ Up just had their annual On Stage @ Home  event which of course had to be virtual this year. It was certainly different and I missed being with friends and the excitement of being together at a live event but they did an outstanding job holding it all online. It’s always a paid event however with earned points I was able to sign up with no charge. There were 10,000 people signed up. The first night it began with a concert by Pat Benatar and her husband. It was amazing. The next two days were filled with stamping demonstrations and special classes sharing business ideas. 

Prior to the event we were able to preorder a bundle from the upcoming mini catalog. I love anything with a punch and this set is awesome. The little embellishments are tiny ladybugs. Too cute! 

These were used during a presentation and we could follow along and do a few cards however I elected not to do them at that time. I did however quickly make a different card when my upline, Catherine Harwood, posted a challenge to those of us who were attending the at home event. 

 

One advantage of the virtual event was that I could multitask and I worked on my CD calendars and keep up with the election results. 

 

This is how my day began yesterday. I had a political sign in my front yard which I decided to put away Friday afternoon. Saturday morning I looked out my front window and there was a sign in the yard. Same size and in the same place as the one I had put away. My mind went crazy for a second thinking someone must have put another political sign in my yard. Imagine my surprise when I went out to look.


PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization, is an international organization dedicated to the education of women. I did indeed feel very special.

Arrange a Wreath, Christmas Version

One more card using the Arrange a Wreath stamp set and coordinating dies.

There is so much foil in the background DSP and in the sprig die I used it was not easy to get a good photo due to the light reflection on the foil. I did one sprig die cut with copper foil paper and one with cherry cobbler card stock and the leaf die is mossy meadow card stock. The flower is two layered die cuts. I put a circle of white card stock behind the center so it would show through the holes in the middle of the flower.

I was able to get away for a few days to a cabin in Georgia and it was wonderful to have somewhere to go with a few friends where we felt safe. It’s our twice/year getaway for crafting and mahjong. We never go anywhere, just check in and craft awhile then play awhile.

Arrange a Wreath & August CD Calendar

I lost my stamping mojo for awhile but over the past several days seem to have gotten it back. Yea!  I have been in the stamp room making cards and planning on an upcoming event for my downline and customers. I don’t have all of those details worked out yet but it will definitely be done with all of the safety precautions in place. More on that later. Yesterday I played again with Arrange a Wreath stamp set. I had posted a card previously using that set. If you missed it you can see it here.

This set is so versatile with stamps and sentiments for several different occasions. The dies come with two different large wreaths which I used on the card below. Once cut out I weaved the leaves in among the sprigs. The background is embossed with the Brick & Mortar 3D embossing folder. The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Greetings and punched out using the new Lovely Labels Pick a Punch Pack.

The inside:

For the inside sentiment I used the So Sentimental stamp set and coordinating Stitched So Sweetly dies adding a circle cut using the Stitched Shapes dies and a few die cut leaves.

I created this envelope using the new Envelope dies that coordinate with Ornamental Envelopes stamp set. This die cuts out the design and then you just add paper behind it. Pretty cool.

Now on to the CD Calendar for August.

Free as a Bird is one of my favorite stamp sets. I colored it using Blends and just outlining it with the Balmy Blue Blend marker gave the illusion of sky. I am getting ready to start designing the calendar for 2021. I think we will all be glad to get this year behind us. It’s been pretty scary.

Home Renovation Starts Today

Today begins the start of some updates I’m making in my home. I’m super excited. The first change is to tear down the lighting in the kitchen ceiling. This was probably really nice back in the 80’s when my house was built but it’s dated now and it’s coming down. Recessed lighting will take it’s place.

Love My Morning Coffee

I have developed quite a morning routine in the past few months and it starts with a big cup of coffee in one of my favorite mugs. Since I usually am not going anywhere I take my time with it along with the news, reading, and the internet. Today I made another card using the Nothing’s Better Than stamp set.

The word Coffee was die cut using the new Foam Adhesive Sheets. They are double sided sticky sheets which you can cut to the size die you are using. Then stick your cardstock to one side and place the die on top, die cut and your image will basically have the entire backside covered in a popup ready to stick to your project.  Perfect for those things too small for dimensionals. I colored the coffee cups with Blends markers.

What an amazing dancer. I discovered he taught himself to dance 5 years ago by watching You Tube videos and now he is a You Tube star and has performed world wide.
