Celebrating Special Birthdays

I made some cards recently for special friends and my daughter. When your friends are also stampers you try to come up with something special. I love this design that has become quit popular recently so decided to give it a try. I actually forgot to take photos of the cards so had to take them sitting on the table when we all went out for a birthday breakfast.

For this card I used the Tropical Chic stamp set and framelits and the coordinating DSP.

I used the Sea of Textures stamp set and framelits with the coordinating DSP for this card. I love the framelit that is the net and looks great with some added sponging and then wadded up to give it a crinkled texture.

This quick video will give you the instructions for creating the card base.

DSP:

  •  3-1/4″ x 2″ (plus one white one for the backside to write a note on)
  •  2-1/2″ x 2″ (cut 2)
  •  2-1/2″ x 7/8″ (cut 2)

A few weeks ago I decided to give another friend and my daughter both gift cards to our new movie theater in town. I remembered the retired stamp set Ready to Pop and framelits which I had put in my retired sale and hoped that it didn’t sell. When I went to look through the leftovers from the sale there it was sitting right on top. I had never used the framelits to make the popcorn box and now that I see how stinkin’ cute it is I think I will keep it.

The gift card fit right inside the popcorn box and I added a little real popcorn.

A trip to the Dollar Tree for a few things to create this cute birthday gift.

Thanks for looking,

With Gratitude

In the Methodist religion ministers are moved from time to time. This is what happened last month in the church where I am a member. We were blessed to have Pastor Charlie who came to us from Belfast, Northern Ireland, for almost 5 years. The day it was announced in church that he would be moving I cried. I wasn’t the only one. When I left church that Sunday I thought how I hated that ministers are moved in the Methodist religion. But then I thought if it weren’t for this we never would have had him at our church. It is the second time in my Methodist life that a minister has had such an impact on me. Because of scheduled vacations (yes, two of them) I really never had a chance to say good bye.  This is the card I made for him.

Do you have someone who has touched your life in a special way? This is the perfect stamp set to let them know. It is such easy water coloring using an Aquapainter. The only hard part of the card was choosing what color mat to use. I switched from Pool Party to Lemon Lime Twist about 10 times before finally picking one. The sentiment is heat embossed in black on Vellum paper.

Adhering Vellum:

The trick to attaching vellum without adhesive showing is to put some Tombo glue on a piece of window sheet or a piece of of the cello wrap that so many of the Stampin’ Up products come in. Then dab a sponge in it so that you don’t have gobs of glue but rather a sticky sponge. Then just dab the back of the vellum with it.

When water coloring you can use reinkers or press the ink pad together in a closed position transferring ink to the lid and use that. Don’t ever brush your Aquapainter against the ink pad.

A Week at the Beach

I was fortunate to be able to spend last week at the beach on Anna Maria Island which is on the Gulf side of the state just below Tampa. I had never been there before and after a fabulous week I am sure it won’t be the only time. This trip all started with my friend, Alice, suggesting we should go the the Holocaust Museum in Orlando which is about 30 miles away. It then became a discussion that we should keep heading west and spend a couple of nights on the other coast. Quickly, it became a week and we never did make it to the museum.

Anna Maria Island is just 7 miles long and really not a lot to do there other than water activities but that is just what we wanted.

We were in the bottom left unit which was literally just steps from the water. It is so much nicer than the Atlantic beach and water. The water in the gulf was clear teal blue. You could actually see your feet no matter how far out you walked. And no or very little seaweed. I don’t go in the ocean here at home anymore because I want to see what I’m walking on but last week we were in the water every day floating on our noodles.  In fact we alternated daily between the gulf and the pool.

Alice and I both love doing puzzles and we did four of them while we were there. I also read two books and we played a new game, Qwirkle. It was such fun I just ordered one.

We found great food while there. This was from the Waterfront restaurant. Shrimp and grits and brussel sprouts. We also found a great French restaurant and ate there twice.  And we tried 3 ice cream shops. Needless to say there was no dieting last week.

Everyone comes out of where they are staying to watch the sunsets. It reminded me of the people lining up to watch a launch at home. While this was pretty it was not quite as spectacular as the rest of the nights. (below)

It was suppose to rain two days during the week but it wound up only raining about 15 minutes the whole time we were there. And then this happened!

One of the shops we went into called Ginny & Jane’s was a combination restaurant and gallery of very unusual decorations and artist items for sale. There were decorated bicycles hanging from the ceiling and jewel adorned items everywhere.

A week goes by way too fast and vacations do have to come to an end. Now it’s back to going to the gym, working out, and making cards.

Thanks for stopping by

Tropical Chic

I’m in love with everything in the Tropical Chic suite. The first thing that caught my eye when I first looked through the new catalog was the pink and green colors of the paper. I think I had more fun making card samples for my open house with this suite of products than any other.

This card uses the leaves embossing folder for the background. The Bermuda Bay leaves are punched using the leaf punch. The rest is all stamped and die cut. Easy card to make for sure.

Again, more stamping and die cutting of the flowers and leaves. The center panel of die cut leaves is my favorite. And with the new embossing mat you can turn this, or any die, into an embossing die. Check out the video from Stampin’ Up below to see it.

Open House Fun

Saturday was my annual Open House to kick off the new catalog, sell my retiring stamps and accessories, and a customer and downline appreciation event all rolled into one day. It is my one BIG event of the year.

This is where they signed in for door prizes and picked up a catalog if they didn’t already have one along with some other giveaways. The folders on the left held a new wish list, my monthly coupons, an inventory sheet, scavenger hunt, and a new paper color chart.

I bought a small See & Say and converted it to my Spin to Win incentive. With a $40 or more order that day only they could spin to win one of the products. It was fun as the animal noises could still be heard when the cord was pulled.

I used the new stamp set Tropical Chic as the basis of my open house theme. I love doing a special theme every year so all of the food and decorations were tropical.

Everyone got one of these stick candy treats.

Rooted in Nature is a favorite stamp set. On my top 5 list for sure!

This display board held samples from many new stamp sets. There was also a candy giveaway at this station. See below.

This held two chocolates. You have to have a little chocolate gift.

When your house is not too big and you run out of room for displays just use the stove! It worked out great although the photo is a bit shaded due to the vent overhang. I think the new Graceful Glass Vellum was a favorite of everyone.

I saw the idea for flowers inside a pineapple and had to do it since it went so well with my theme. It wasn’t that easy to get the pineapple out leaving the outside intact. And because it’s not very deep the flower stems had to be cut very short. But I loved how it turned out. So tropical!

It was Evelyn’s birthday that day and even though she had plans for the day she made time to come to the open house. Her friend Lynette gave her a Stampin’ Up gift certifiate for her birthday. Also pictured are Barbara & Renee, Judy, and Jan.

Tara and LaNelle working on one of the two Make & Takes

Shirley, Pat, and Carol taking a break and having a snack.

Sandra, Debi, Brenda, and Dana making the other Make & Take

Gina was one of the lucky door prize winners.

These are just a few of the approximately 25 people who were here. With so much going on I just didn’t get photos of them all I’m sorry to say.

While I didn’t get pictures of the food you can see some of it in this short video I took just before it was time to start.

I love what I do. I love my stampers who have become my friends. I am happy so many were able to come. If you don’t have a demonstrator and would like to come to an event let me know. And if you don’t have a catalog I would be happy to give you one.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed week.

June 2018 CD Calendar

With so much excitement over the new catalog going live on June 1st I totally forgot to post this months CD Calendar page.

I hope those of you who have the new catalog or those who are viewing it online are finding lots to love. I have been busy trying to get things done for the Open House on June 23.

Have a good week

Happiness Is . . . A New Catalog

Happiness can be many things but today happiness is the new catalog live! If you have received a copy I am sure you have already started a wish list. If you don’t have your copy yet let me know. My own wish list is way too long. I think this is one of the best new catalogs we have had for some time. Being a demonstrator I was able to preorder which I did. And I have another order going in today.

The Stampin’ Up website will be down in the morning so they can move things over. Ordering will be available beginning 2 PM EDT. If you do order online you can use this months Host Code. I have also added a new link at the top of my blog where you will always be able to get the current hostess code when ordering online.

While you are looking through your catalog (or looking online) check out some of my favorite things. It’s a good bet that we will be making cards using some of these sets in the future. What are your favorite sets?
