It’s a Bird. It’s a Plane …

So today I did go see “Man of Steel”, the new Superman movie. I really was interested in the 3D and I always liked Superman when I was young so I was looking forward to it.  But there sure isn’t any similarity in the old and the new other than Lois Lane, The Daily Planet, and things like that. This movie today was packed with nonstop action and not just the routine stopping a train or a speeding bullet. My friend said it reminded him of the video games that are out for Xbox and so we agreed that was the kind of audience that would be attracted to it.  There are plenty of aliens and spacecraft, fight scenes and falling buildings and such but I think I prefer the more mild mannered Clark Kent of the 50’s.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound …

I had never seen or even heard of the new D-box seating. The theater had a few rows of special seats that vibrate and move in sync with the movie. There were a couple in the lobby to try so we did and didn’t like it. Too much jerking movement. Reminded me of so many of the rides at Universal Studios. For those who do like that, it’s going to cost you extra for all that jerking around. $8 more! That brings the price of a ticket up to $20.

Well, it’s late so I’m calling it a night. Have a Blessed Sunday,

Clockworks

This was a stamp set that I almost bought last year but didn’t so I just got it a few weeks ago. It’s perfect for making masculine cards. I also used the new Dictionary background stamp. I loved the newsprint Designer Series Paper in last years catalog so I was unhappy when it was discontinued. After using it I have to say that I think this Dictionary stamp is a great replacement for that printed background look. The base of the clock and the hands are cut out but the piece with the numbers can be punched out. I also really like the two blotchy looking stamps and I know I will use them with so many other stamp sets.

I hope you have a great Saturday. I’ll be going to see the new Superman movie in 3D. I’m not crazy about Superman but I love 3D!

Stampin’ Up! convention is just three weeks away and I’m busy working on swaps. Swapping cards with other demonstrators is not required but it is fun and you come home with lots of great ideas. I signed up for a special wow swap several months ago but you cannot start on them until you know what has been retired. Everyone wants cards with current stamp sets and products so it’s a given that you never use retired products. So anyway,  since it was some time ago that I signed up for it I was thinking it was for 50 cards. I just reread the instructions and it’s for 75 cards! When I mentioned this in my stamp class they all said they would help me get them done. How sweet is that!  I really won’t have trouble getting them done but I thought that was so nice of them to offer to help. That’s the way my stampers are …. just the best!

Hello ….

This is one of the cards we made in class tonight. It uses the stamp set My Friend. It’s not a new set but new to me as I didn’t purchase it last year. I was inspired by a card made by demonstrator Adriana Benitez. I found her card when I was internet surfing. I don’t know her but it turns out she lives right down the road in Melbourne. I changed up a few things and I used the swirl stamp from Everything Eleanor on the inside of the card.

I am reading a book about passengers that were on board the Titanic called Women and Children First. It was recommended by an employee at The Titanic Exhibition that I went to in Orlando a few months ago. It’s very interesting with just a few pages about each couple or family telling about their circumstances before and after the tragedy. Most of those in First Class had very privileged lives with their jewels, money,  servants that traveled with them, numerous homes, often in different countries, and more. Unfortunately, most of those jewels and money went down with the ship.  And sadly, so did most of the men and some of the women and children.

There was some  voiced disappointment when it was realized that the hexagon punched pieces are larger than the hexagons in the embossing folder. But I have to say that I like the larger size now that I have had a chance to use it. You can coordinate embossed paper with stamped and punched images using the Six-Sided Sampler stamp set as seen in the card I made below.

Did you go outside tonight to take a look at the moon? The supermoon as it is called? It is only called a supermoon one time a year – when it’s closest to Earth and that’s tonight (Sunday). I went out and it is indeed huge and very, very bright. Made me kind of wish I was at the beach or river. It’s probably spectacular shining on the water. Anyway, if you missed it go get your computer and do a search. There are plenty of beautiful pictures taken from around the world tonight.

Hugs,

Red Light, Green Light

Did you ever play Red Light, Green Light when you were a child? It was a popular game back in my childhood days. I wonder if kids still play it.  When I saw this card designed by demonstrator Brian King it reminded me of that game. Brian stated his friend’s son had just gotten his driver’s license and he made the card for him. I have a grandson who will be getting his license in just a few months so I knew I wanted to CASE (copy and share everything) his card. The Artisan Label Punch is perfect for making the traffic light.

Traffic Light

I remember the day I got my license. We had just moved from Iowa to Kentucky a few months before. My dad had unknowingly let his license expire so he had to retake the driving road test. We took the test the same day sharing the car and the memories.

Thanks for stopping by and have a Blessed Sunday,

A Little This & That …..

I think this new catalog has some of the best ever hostess stamp sets. When someone has an order of $150 or more or is the hostess of a party that has a party total of $150 or more they earn hostess dollars that can be spent on anything in the catalog which includes the hostess only products.  You’ve gotta love free stuff!  I loved the Simply Sketched stamp set and used it last night in my stamp class on a Z-fold card.

Simply Sketched

SS open

I am really liking the new Baked Brown Sugar In Color and it’s the base of this card. The front panel is embossed with the Stripes Embossing Folder.  The square piece on the front with the bird is stamped on watercolor paper. I used the Essentials Paper Piercing template and tool to add some pierced holes in the corners. This stamp set has three very nice greetings in it.

We are having some pretty severe storms and rains lately and today was a downpour along with some lightening. After it stopped raining my neighborhood lost electricity right about dinner time and it was out for about four hours. So I did what I discovered others in the neighborhood were doing … shopping! No reason to sit in the dark without air conditioning so my daughter and I walked through Target and then Marshall’s. Now I didn’t need anything but I managed to come away with a few things. Something for me and new shoes for my grandson. And a good time with my daughter.

Ribbon Shares

I am doing ribbon shares of the new Chevron ribbon and the Taffeta ribbon. It’s a great way to get some of each of the offered colors without having to buy every one of them. The prices listed include the shipping and tax. If you are interested in getting a share let me know. I have limited shares available.

The chevron ribbon is much nicer than I even imagined. It is a very soft ribbon and I love that it comes in so many colors. You will get all 12 colors and have a choice of 1 yard of each color for $12.50 or 2 yards of each for $25. Chevron Ribbon Share

The taffeta ribbon comes in 5 colors and you get 2 yards of each color for $8.00

Taffeta Ribbon Share

I will also do a ribbon share of the Ruffle Stretch Trim ribbon. You would get 2 yards of each of the 5 colors for $10.50

Ruffle Trim Collage

Tonight was stamp class and it was the smallest class. Only four people. We had a terrible storm and rain which I imagine kept some people from coming and others are on vacation. But it was a fun night. I stamped with those that came and we used some of the new stamp sets. Check back tomorrow and I will show you what we made.
