March CD Calendar

Just a quick post today to share the CD calendar for this month. The idea for the cute gnome came from another demonstrator but I am not sure who it was. The beard is a leaf die and the hat is the Christmas tree punch. The feet are from a leaf punch. March is always one of the most difficult months to come up with an idea so this was perfect.

I’ll be back soon with more cards.

Social media has been filling up with support for Ukraine by posting pictures of their flag and the national flower, the sunflower. This one is especially beautiful. If I had the sunflower stamp set I would make a sunflower card. Let’s pray this war ends quickly.

My youngest son had a birthday a few weeks ago. A BIG birthday! He turned 50. How does that happen so quickly? There was a party planned and my oldest son who lives in KY came as a surprise. It was great fun and of course I loved having all three of my kids together.

Cactus Cuties

I do love a stamp set that has a coordinating punch and this new mini catalog has several. My last class focused on cards with punches including this one made with the Cactus Cuties bundle.

Below is the list of products I used for the card. The pot was stamped with Cinnamon Cider ink which I neglected to add to the list. The gingham check DSP is retired product as are the little embellishments on the cactus. Those are from the sprinkles that coordinated with the ice cream cone set in a previous catalog.

A friend sent this to me this morning.

It was a bit chilly this morning here in Florida!

The week before Christmas I went to New York City for 3 days with my friend and Stamin’ Up upline Catherine Harwood. Up to this point I had only spent one day there many years ago. I went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island so really didn’t see a lot of the city. It has always been a dream of mine to go to a Broadway show there and to see the city all decorated and lit up at Christmas.  So I have to backtrack to last year when To Kill a Mockingbird was canceled from the season of Broadway in Orlando due to Covid. Catherine and I both have season tickets with our daughters and we were so disappointed. Then in June of last year I saw an ad about Broadway in New York opening back up and Jeff Daniels was going to come back and do 3 months only of his role in To Kill a Mockingbird. October – December. I asked Catherine if she had any interest in going and within a half an hour we bought tickets to the play, reserved a hotel, and both had enough points to get a free Southwest flight. I was so excited. Checking items off my bucket list. Covid was getting worse again and a few days before we were scheduled to leave on Dec. 17th many Broadway shows were being cancelled. We even talked about not going if our play wound up being canceled. But we had also bought tickets to the 9/11 museum and of course there were all of the Christmas decorations to see so with our supply of masks and hand sanitizer off we went. It was even more than I dreamed it would be.

The tree with all the lights was even more beautiful than any picture can capture. The ice skaters were on a lower level and without a ticket to skate you could not go down to that level. And with so many people you couldn’t stand and watch them. Staff members were telling you to take your photo and move on. That was a little disappointing as I would have liked to watch them skate. We were very careful about wearing our masks but occasionally would quickly take them off for a photo if we weren’t in a crowd of people.

We did so much walking. The bottom left photo is of course in Times Square. The bottom right photo is eating a giant corn dog which was half hot dog and half mozzarella cheese. We were at an outdoor Christmas market in Central Park.

Macy’s in NYC is nothing like our local Macy stores. It rained on and off this day but we trudged on. So much to see, so little time. The decorations in the store were stunningly beautiful. There were trees with owls and squirrels that moved. I was amazed at the escalators. Most were the old wooden ones.

I didn’t take a lot of photos at the 9/11 museum.  Photos were prohibited in many of the areas and I just didn’t think appropriate at times.  We were a little early for our ticket admission time of 10:00 AM and had to stand outside in line for a half hour in 39 degree weather. It really was the only time I felt cold. The bottom right photo is the piece of steel support between the 93rd and 99th floor of the tower and where one of the planes hit. It was later identified by a serial number on the metal.

I have always thought Jeff Daniels an amazing actor and he didn’t disappoint. The play was 3 hours of brilliant and thought provoking entertainment.  Celia Keenen Bolger who played the daughter, Scout, won the Tony award for best actor in 2019.  (Jeff Daniels was nominated but didn’t win. I think he should have.)  At the end of both acts Scout says, “All rise.” What she is really saying is that we are our own judge and what we do and how we behave matters in this world.

Have a great day!

Happy 2022

Another year is behind us and the end of last year was a busy one. I wasn’t sure I was going to do my annual Christmas card and CD calendar classes last year mainly due to the pandemic but I had so many people asking about them (and I make a lot of calendars for my family and friends) that I decided to do them with limited seating. I really can’t remember the first year I did the calendar but it has been a long time and every year I struggle with some of the designs for some of the months. But when Stampin’ Up came out with the cute penguin stamp set I knew immediately I would use it for January.

I grew up in Iowa with lots of snow. Living in Florida it’s one of the things I truly miss especially during the holidays. We did have a drop in temperature this week and I saw a picture of snow falling in the panhandle. Living in Iowa we didn’t really have hills but we managed to find places to go sledding and of course ice skating. The stamp set is Penguin Place. The penguin that is sledding is stamped and the other penguin was punched using the coordinating punch.

I am currently working on a fundraiser for the PEO chapter I am in. The daisy is the official flower of PEO so we are making daisy cards to sell. PEO is Philanthropic Educational Organization dedicated to educational opportunities for women.

HELLO LADYBUG BUNDLE (ENGLISH)

This card used the new Hello Ladybug stamp set and coordinating punch along with the new Bough Punch for the leaves. The gingham paper and some of the other punches are retired.

The new January – June Mini Catalog is now live along with a new Sale-a-bration brochure. You can see the new catalog and brochure by clicking on the links below or the link on the right side of my blog.

January – June Mini Catalog

Sale-a-bratioin January/February 2022

I have also been busy this last week on redoing my stamp room. I am fortunate to have one of the bedrooms in my home dedicated to stamping. I have wanted to redo it for quite some time using the Kalex product from IKEA. It took months to get because it sells out quickly and when they would get it in the Orlando store I didn’t have access to a truck to go get it. It finally all came together the day before Christmas so my daughter and son-in-law and I picked it up.

This is the beginning. I put these two units together. The first one took twice as long as the second one. I have more pieces that a friend is going to put together for me. Doing this has led to going through bins and finding things I didn’t remember I had, throwing away a lot, and creating a bin of “to be finished” cards. I have enough to do to keep busy for months.

I am still decorated for Christmas. I usually wait until Epiphany before putting it all away. I do love everything about Christmas and am still enjoying it all. I bought a new tree. Mine was so old and at 9′ tall it took a very tall ladder to decorate it. I love the new tree which is pre-lit and has a bit of frost and glitter on it along with some pinecones.

Just a note on the tree top. If you know me then you know that the tree top was what my parents bought for their first Christmas tree and I grew up with it being on our tree every year. It is 80 years old and looks a little sad but the memories are such happy ones. It use to be sparkly silver tinsel with red berries and red cellophane bells but after 80 years it has lost all of the bells and the tinsel isn’t bright anymore. We always called it the spider. My tree is full of memories.

One of the perks of making and sending cards is getting them from your friends who also stamp.

I had a lot of excitement during December so stop back by later this week for more stories and photos of my holidays.

Have a great day

People don’t have a strong intuitive sense of how much bigger 1 Billion is than 1 Million.

1 Million seconds is 11 days – 1 Billion seconds is 31.5 years.

CD Calendar – October, 2021

I’ve been busy designing next years calendar and almost forgot about posting this months page.  I gave some thought to not having the class this year however I have so many people who make them every year and I make about 20 myself for gifts to family and friends. I do have a few openings left for the calendar so contact me if you are interested. There are 2 classes, November 18th and 19th.

Peaceful Cabin Bendi Card

Peaceful Cabin Bundle is my favorite in the July – December Mini Catalog and so perfect for making a Bendi fun fold card. I love that the card lays flat to fit in an envelope but when you stand it up the front portion “bends” outward.

The backdrop of the card is a piece of the designer series paper which is glued to a piece of white cardstock that is 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″.  Score the white cardstock @ 2-3/4″ before adding the DSP.

The back of the card becomes the place for your sentiment and hand-written wishes. I suggest stamping this before adding the front stamped and die cut pieces.

Adding a battery operated tea light transforms the card into a beautiful Christmas decoration.

You can see the two pieces that “bend” once the card is standing. The front piece is the cabin.
It is stamped on a piece of white cardstock 6-1/2″ wide and scored @ 1/2″ on both ends.
The other piece with the trees is stamped on a piece of cardstock 5-1/2″ wide and
scored @ 1/2″ on both ends.

I did two versions of the card. One had the addition of Wink of Stella to the ares that would be snow on the cabin and the foreground. The other option was to add silver foil snowflakes instead of white to pick up the silver in the trees from the designer series paper that was used as the backdrop.
