Happy 2022

Another year is behind us and the end of last year was a busy one. I wasn’t sure I was going to do my annual Christmas card and CD calendar classes last year mainly due to the pandemic but I had so many people asking about them (and I make a lot of calendars for my family and friends) that I decided to do them with limited seating. I really can’t remember the first year I did the calendar but it has been a long time and every year I struggle with some of the designs for some of the months. But when Stampin’ Up came out with the cute penguin stamp set I knew immediately I would use it for January.

I grew up in Iowa with lots of snow. Living in Florida it’s one of the things I truly miss especially during the holidays. We did have a drop in temperature this week and I saw a picture of snow falling in the panhandle. Living in Iowa we didn’t really have hills but we managed to find places to go sledding and of course ice skating. The stamp set is Penguin Place. The penguin that is sledding is stamped and the other penguin was punched using the coordinating punch.

I am currently working on a fundraiser for the PEO chapter I am in. The daisy is the official flower of PEO so we are making daisy cards to sell. PEO is Philanthropic Educational Organization dedicated to educational opportunities for women.

HELLO LADYBUG BUNDLE (ENGLISH)

This card used the new Hello Ladybug stamp set and coordinating punch along with the new Bough Punch for the leaves. The gingham paper and some of the other punches are retired.

The new January – June Mini Catalog is now live along with a new Sale-a-bration brochure. You can see the new catalog and brochure by clicking on the links below or the link on the right side of my blog.

January – June Mini Catalog

Sale-a-bratioin January/February 2022

I have also been busy this last week on redoing my stamp room. I am fortunate to have one of the bedrooms in my home dedicated to stamping. I have wanted to redo it for quite some time using the Kalex product from IKEA. It took months to get because it sells out quickly and when they would get it in the Orlando store I didn’t have access to a truck to go get it. It finally all came together the day before Christmas so my daughter and son-in-law and I picked it up.

This is the beginning. I put these two units together. The first one took twice as long as the second one. I have more pieces that a friend is going to put together for me. Doing this has led to going through bins and finding things I didn’t remember I had, throwing away a lot, and creating a bin of “to be finished” cards. I have enough to do to keep busy for months.

I am still decorated for Christmas. I usually wait until Epiphany before putting it all away. I do love everything about Christmas and am still enjoying it all. I bought a new tree. Mine was so old and at 9′ tall it took a very tall ladder to decorate it. I love the new tree which is pre-lit and has a bit of frost and glitter on it along with some pinecones.

Just a note on the tree top. If you know me then you know that the tree top was what my parents bought for their first Christmas tree and I grew up with it being on our tree every year. It is 80 years old and looks a little sad but the memories are such happy ones. It use to be sparkly silver tinsel with red berries and red cellophane bells but after 80 years it has lost all of the bells and the tinsel isn’t bright anymore. We always called it the spider. My tree is full of memories.

One of the perks of making and sending cards is getting them from your friends who also stamp.

I had a lot of excitement during December so stop back by later this week for more stories and photos of my holidays.

Have a great day

People don’t have a strong intuitive sense of how much bigger 1 Billion is than 1 Million.

1 Million seconds is 11 days – 1 Billion seconds is 31.5 years.

CD Calendar – October, 2021

I’ve been busy designing next years calendar and almost forgot about posting this months page.  I gave some thought to not having the class this year however I have so many people who make them every year and I make about 20 myself for gifts to family and friends. I do have a few openings left for the calendar so contact me if you are interested. There are 2 classes, November 18th and 19th.

Peaceful Cabin Bendi Card

Peaceful Cabin Bundle is my favorite in the July – December Mini Catalog and so perfect for making a Bendi fun fold card. I love that the card lays flat to fit in an envelope but when you stand it up the front portion “bends” outward.

The backdrop of the card is a piece of the designer series paper which is glued to a piece of white cardstock that is 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″.  Score the white cardstock @ 2-3/4″ before adding the DSP.

The back of the card becomes the place for your sentiment and hand-written wishes. I suggest stamping this before adding the front stamped and die cut pieces.

Adding a battery operated tea light transforms the card into a beautiful Christmas decoration.

You can see the two pieces that “bend” once the card is standing. The front piece is the cabin.
It is stamped on a piece of white cardstock 6-1/2″ wide and scored @ 1/2″ on both ends.
The other piece with the trees is stamped on a piece of cardstock 5-1/2″ wide and
scored @ 1/2″ on both ends.

I did two versions of the card. One had the addition of Wink of Stella to the ares that would be snow on the cabin and the foreground. The other option was to add silver foil snowflakes instead of white to pick up the silver in the trees from the designer series paper that was used as the backdrop.

One of the FREE Sale-a-bration products is the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper which coordinates with the stamp set and punch.

There are only a few weeks left for Sale-a-bration and this paper will not be available after September 30th (or while supply lasts)

During my open house a few weeks ago one of the make and take projects was made using Penguin Place and the Designer Series Paper.

The cute bag to put the card into is one of the new InColor ombre gift bags. These are often overlooked when going through the annual catalog. And they are such a great buy. 20 bags for only $6.00.

Beautifully Penned FREE Sale-a-bration DSP

I absolutely love a card that is black and white, sometimes with a pop of color, so when I saw this pack of designer series paper in the Sale-a-bration brochure I knew it was going to be one of my picks for FREE product. The card layout was inspired by another demonstrator, Julie Petrie. You can see her card here. I made a few changes to her card. Added some ribbon, red rhinestones and changed the sentiment.

I colored and fussy cut one of the flowers for the inside of the card.

This pack of DSP has 4 sheets of 3-double sided designs which gives you plenty of paper for making several of the same card or for large classes. And finding a design to use on the envelope flap was easy since they all coordinate. This is my favorite way to dress up an envelope.

The sentiments on my card are from Timeless Tropical. The ribbon is retired.

I hope you are enjoying this weekend.

ARRGH – September CD Calendar

September is not always an easy month to come up with a design for my CD Calendar page. So I did a search for special days in the month and came up with talk like a pirate day. Years ago when I was still working at the hospital I was part of a group who went from department to department dressed like pirates on September 19th giving employees treats. It was fun.
