Star of Light

Just one more day and you can order from the Holiday Catalog. It is full of wonderful new stamp sets and products. Here is a peek at one of the Christmas stamp sets called Star of Light.

Star of Light 2

The swirl of stars, the sentiment, and the image on the silver foil star are from this stamp set. There is a coordinating framelit to this set however I did not use it this time. I chose to die cut a silver foil star as my focal point. The swirl of stars, the sentiment and the image on the foil star are heat embossed with silver embossing powder. I added strands of the metallic silver thread to the back of the star using glue dots and then popped it up with a dimensional. There are also some small stars stamped on the card front with Night of Navy ink.

Here is the inside:

In March I bought one milkweed plant hoping to attrach butterflies. A friend bought three plants at the same time. She had numerous butterflies which laid their eggs, turned into chrysalis and she watched the new butterflies emerge. I had a few butterflies flying around my plant but never saw a caterpillar. I was very disappointed. Then a few days ago this happened:
CatepilersI was so excited when I saw them. There are 5 on the one tiny plant. It's amazing to watch them eat the leaves and even the stems. I worried that I would not have enough for 5 of them so I went out this morning and bought 3 more plants. I know a lot of kids experience this when they are young, in school I suppose, but it is the first time I have ever seen it. Watching a miracle happen right in my front yard. Makes me happy.
Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day,

Seaside Shore Collage Class

I saw a collage recently using the Seaside Shore stamp set and immediately thought of doing a class every few months doing a different themed collage. The idea is that you would purchase a frame and rotate the collages depending on the time of year. I will provide the designs and materials to create the collage on a piece of cardstock.  You will have a choice of doing a 12" x 12" collage or an 8" x 8" collage.

fish collage, both

I have framed the smaller collage but have not bought the frame yet for the larger 12" x 12" collage. Because most of these square frames are either white, black, or a wood tone I am going to design the projects to work with one of those options. Of course you can purchase any frame you choose to coordinate with your finished collage. Using a 40% or 50% off coupon from one of the craft stores to get your frame makes this a very affordable project.

I put this on my furry rug to take the photo. Doesn't it look like is on top of some seaweed!

fish collage 8x8

The class size will be limited so you need to RSVP right away to reserve your spot. You also need to let me know if you want to do the 8" x 8" or the 12" x 12" size. There is a lot of Wink of Stella glitter on this project so the price will include your own Wink of Stella pen which you will take home with you and will have for future collages. I already have plans for a Fall and a Winter/Christmas collage. Next year I will continue with a Spring collage and maybe a Valentine themed collage.

This Seaside Shore collage class will be Thursday, August 18th at 6 PM or on Friday, August 19th at 1 PM. The class fee is $12. Subsequent collage classes will be less since you will already have the Wink of Stella pen. You don't want to miss out on this. To sign up for this class send me an email at bethdaniels@cfl.rr.com

More Paper Flowers

I had two classes last week for the giant paper flowers.  The thing about putting these together is that you think they are not going to turn out or look good but when you get them all finished they are just beautiful.  Everyone picked out the colors they wanted and it's just hard to decide which ones are the prettiest.

Linda and Pat also made the flowers but I wasn't thinking and didn't get their pictures before they left. sad

Seaside Shore Z-Fold Card

Fish Z-fold card

I made this card for a swap with some of my demonstrator friends.  We had to use new product and I had just ordered this stamp set and wanted to use it. I also had recently done a square Z-fold card and wanted to redesign it to fit into a standard envelope. The Z-fold cards are fun to do. Score a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" piece of cardstock at 4-1/4" and 2-1/8" then fold the front section backwards. The small strip is 1-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored the same and then turned the opposite direction so that the longer section is across the front of the card. It's not evident in this photo but I used some of the Clear Wink of Stella on some of the images.

Online Ordering & New Hostess Code

Monday

There is a new Hostess Code for online orders totaling less than $150 before shipping and tax.

Hostess Code:   D2MBC7VY

I truly appreciate my customers who order online.  Occasionally I receive notice of an order but have no idea who placed it and therefore cannot thank them. Here is why this happens:

  • When you select "no contact" in my online Stampin' Up! store it literally means don't tell me who I you are.
  • Maybe you didn't realize this is what the "no contact" box means.  Maybe you thought it meant, "just let me place my order but don't bother me with other stuff". But it doesn't.   I can't tell you how disappointed this makes me since I cannot thank you.

CD Calendar Catch Up

I am playing catch up with the posts for this years CD Calendar. I didn't post a few of them during that time I was in KY taking care of my mother.

CD Calendar April '16

CD Calendar May 16

CD Calendar June '16It's about time to start thinking of ideas for next year's calendar. This is the biggest project I do all year because it takles so many stamps and ink to do all 12 pages and I have to be sure I am not duplicating ink colors or stamps for the different months and I also have to have enough blocks for all of the stamps. It's quite a juggling act. Here's a little info on how I make it all come together:

I print out the pages on our white cardstock. My friend and up line, Catherine Harwood, creates the page templates every year and puts them on her blog 321 Stamp. I'm so grateful she does this. Thanks Catherine!

As I begin to create the designs for the pages I first do them on sheets of copy paper with the calendars printed on them. I do this because it often takes a few tries to get the design just how I want it and I don't want to waste our good cardstock. Once I have the design I like I then create it on our white cardstock. I put a little label on the ink pad so that I know that color is being used already.

I try to keep the designs easy to duplicate with no or very few instructions. Most stampers can look at the design and know what to do. If there are specific instructions I list them on the box (see below). I also try to keep the designs easy enough so that it doesn't take a lot of time since they are doing 12 different pages.

I keep a list of each month with the stamps, ink, and anything else needed.

When I do the class I put all of the supplies for each month and the designed sample page in a plastic shoe box and line them up on a table. Stampers receive the pages for the number of calendars they want to make and then pick up any one of the available boxes. They take the box to their workspace and stamp their page(s) for that month. Once finished they return the box to the table and pick up another one. I limit this class to 10 people so that no one is having to wait for a box and no one is sharing supplies. It is one of my favorite classes.

Thanks for stopping by,
