May’s CD Calendar just had to be flowers. You know, April showers bring May flowers. And it’s the month we celebrate Mother’s Day. This is one of my favorite calendar pages.
Today is also May Day. Did you ever celebrate May Day? Growing up in Iowa May 1st was called May Basket Day. We made little baskets and filled them with treats. The basket was usually a small paper cup decorated with stickers or crepe paper and some flowers, sometimes with a handle made from pipe cleaners or ribbon. You would go put the basket on a friend’s porch or door handle, ring the doorbell and run away. The recipient would then run after trying to catch you and give you a kiss. Great fun and a happy memory from my childhood. I found these pictures online of how our May Baskets may have looked.
One May Day when I was an adult I found a big straw basket on my porch decorated with daisies and filled with goodies from my mother. She was like that. Special.
Have a wonderful day.

This made me tear up, Beth. My Mom was from Butler County, Iowa (Greene) and told me about how her and her sisters would make these when they were young. I would wake up on May 1st to a little cup of goodies (usually in a cupcake paper) at my breakfast seat in the morning. Thank you for reminding me of just how Special Moms are
Thanks for sharing your memory. Sometimes it’s the little things that bring such joy.
Love May too. I remember dancing around the May pole holding long colorful paper streamers in my Maryland elementary school.
Your May calendar page is very pretty!
Thanks Donna. We did the May pole in school sometimes too.
